Archive 1Piano Trio No.2, Op.66 (Mendelssohn, Felix)Hello Perlnerd666, I was looking for practice parts of the aforementioned piece, since my online order only had a score; and when I went to check the practice parts, they were of Trio no 1 op 49! I just wanted to point that out to avoid future confusion and/or frustration. Thanks, Artifex5070
Hello...Thanks for your message the other day. I left some comments and questions on my discussion page that you may wish to see or respond to. Best Regards, User:homerdundas Quintet for Clarinet and Strings, K.581 (Mozart, Wolfgang Amadeus)Hello and Welcome to IMSLP. You redirected the above page to another page. It is good to have no redundant work pages, but by redirecting you removed all content. The content was a broken file entry, which you of course couldn't know. I have put them back on the new page; the latest addition was a duplicate of it. --Peter talk 12:50, 10 July 2008 (EDT)
category changesHello Perlnerd666, I have noticed you corrected some genre categories (e.g.String_Quartet_No.13_(Beethoven,_Ludwig_van)). I would advice to wait with this and prevent redundant work, as the lack of the right categories in these pages is actually due to a known bug. When fixed, the correct genres should return as they were submitted. Cheers, Peter talk 18:23, 14 July 2008 (EDT) Barhms: Sextet filesDear Perlnerd666, I don't see why you are claiming there is an "uncertain copyright status" about the edition, which was issued by Breitkopf and the Gesellschaft für Musikfreunde in 1926-1927, edited by Hans Gal and Eusebius Mandyczewski. The entire edition is PD in the USA and has been reprinted by Kalmus and Dover. It is also PD in the EU because of the rules covering Urtext editions (25 years from publication), and likelwise PD in Canada because urtext editions fail to meet the threshold of originality to qualify as an "adaptation" under Canada's statute. You will note that we have the symphonies from this edition posted here, despite the fact that Gal lived until 1987. Carolus 17:31, 18 August 2008 (EDT)
They were published without proper copyright notice, which injected them into the US public domain upon publication. By 1996, when the GATT revisions to US law came into effect, the complete edition was already public domain in its country of origin (Germany) due to the urtext provisions of the German law (Sect. 70) and thus not eligible for "restoration." As mentioned above, these editions continue to be reprinted by Dover and Kalmus - who could not do so were it otherwise. Carolus 15:18, 24 August 2008 (EDT)
Hierarchy of Items on a PageHello Perlnerd666, Please hold off on doing this until we've settled the order and which levels to use for what. (We've been having a discussion over at the Forum). Also, the term "full score" is not employed for items like Violin Sonatas. It is typically used only for larger ensemble pieces from chamber music to orchestra and band. "Complete score" is a safer bet when describing piano works, violin/piano, cello/piano, etc. Thanks for all your help in cleaning things up! Carolus 01:43, 2 September 2008 (EDT)
Merging of filesHi Perlnerd666,
Searle listing of Liszt's worksHi, actually on IMSLP Liszt's works have been carefully ordered after Searle numbering which clearly distinguishes between orchestra, solo, 4hand or 2 piano versions! Before changing/redirecting existing pages this should be discussed with the admins Peter or Carolus and Funper who created most of the Liszt pages. Hobbypianist 13:07, 29 October 2008 (EDT)
Pachelbel Magnificat FuguesDear Perlnerd666, Glad to find the Magnificat Fugues by Pachelbel. I played some when I was young en now you present the complete set. However, complete: instead of set III you updated BWV12 (cantata Weinen Klagen by Bach). I look forward to the remaining Fugues. With regards, Jan Mannee
CCARH ScoresHello, I see you've uploaded a few of these. I'd like for you to hold off on any more until I contact the folks there to see if it is OK if we host all of their files here. For one thing, we need to credit the respective editors of the editions and assign the correct Creative Commons license. Thanks, Carolus 15:28, 16 November 2008 (EST) (IMSLP Copyright Admin)
I talked with CCARH today. I think they will be OK with us having the PDF scores mirrored here. They will be sending a reply next week, so please continue to hold off on uploading any additional titles until we know for sure. BTW, I notice you are inserting the Schubert complete works publisher template in to all those songs Aldona has so kindly uploaded. The style for publisher listing should be the original publisher on top, followed by the reprint publisher on the line (or lines) below. I did this one - Die Schatten, D.50 - as an example for you. Thanks for doing all of that kind of tidying up. It makes the site easier to read and use (even though very few users seem to realize it) - sort of like a well-designed house. Hopefully we'll be able to set up a style guideline in the next few months. Carolus 20:09, 21 November 2008 (EST)
Hi again, I noticed we're picking up quite a few of the exact year dates for the Schubert volumes. I have thus modified the template so that you can add the dates to the existing items by insterting another vertical bar (|) after the plate number (if present) and adding the date (|1889). If you look at the overtures, you can see exactly what I did to add the date. We'll have to add a publisher page for Baerenreiter sooner or later. It's on my "back-burner" list of things to do. BTW, the recent addition of Alberti's Op.1 Sonatas has embedded MIDI files so you can listen the piece to by clicking on the first measure of music - really very nice. Carolus 01:29, 24 November 2008 (EST) Hello...Thanks for your message the other day. I left some comments and questions on my discussion page that you may wish to see or respond to. Best Regards, User:homerdundas Mozart gesamtausgabeYou can find the number of each work in the complete edition on top of the first page of the score. cheers Peter talk 16:11, 27 November 2008 (EST) Template:Schubert SymphoniesHi Perlnerd, sorry to revert your edit of the Schubert Symphonies template, but the assymetry of the two C major symphonies (“Little” and “Great”) facing off symphonies 1–5 was quite deliberate on my part. The transitional nature of the 6th symphony is partly reflected by the succession of unsuccessful attempts (D 615, 708a, 729, 759) at moving to a new style, before he acheived it with the Great C major. There’s no need to balance the two sides. If anything, relegating the B minor symphony (the archetypal "Unfinished") to the lower half of the template is the most awkward feature of the template at present, since the two extant movements are frequently performed just by themselves: none of the other fragments or “unfinisheds” are in a performable state, as Schubert left them. May I suggest that if you have really dramatic arguments against this, we take the discussion to the template’s talk page? Regards, Philip Legge ♇ @ © talk 18:04, 6 December 2008 (EST)
featuredThanks for the work on the featured list. This is really bringing nice scores to attention. In the past this list changed only a couple of times a year:) --Peter talk 05:23, 19 December 2008 (EST)
Schubert Songs (Series XX of the Gesammtausgabe)Hi, I looked this up the other day when I had access to OCLC. Apparently, the whole series was issued in the two years 1894 and 1895. Therefore, I've been listing the year as "1894-95" in the last slot of the template. If you have other information which contradicts this, let me know. Also, we can probably surmise the plate numbers from the ones I already found for the cycle Die schöne Müllerin, D.795 (Op.25) (Nos.433-452 = plates F.S. 790-809). Thus, the plate for No.453 is probably F.S. 810, the one for No.432 is F.S. 769, and so on. Carolus 23:18, 3 January 2009 (EST)

Re: Schubert String Quintet(looking around in collection of Kalmus reprints...) Unfortunately I don't have a copy of the String Quintet at the moment. I'll certainly put it on my priority list to look out for. (not only that, but life is not getting less busy after the holiday period like I thought it would...I'm back at work full-time after a couple of months of part-time work, and I don't know when I'll get a chance to scan much more again.) Main PageHi there, I've made a copy of the Main Page that anyone can edit. Feel free to make any changes you see fit. (I have already made some small changes, and maybe I'll make some more.) Thanks for your help. --Leonard Vertighel 08:04, 16 January 2009 (EST) main page/contributor portalHi Perlnerd, I'll reply to some of the issues you brought up on Feldmahler's page. As far as the Main Page is concerned, I can copy it over any time. I was thinking however that maybe the introductory paragraphs could use some rewriting. Some of the wording sounds a bit clumsy to me ("You can read the full list of goals..."), and I wonder if that 'please use the "Discussion" link' part shouldn't be removed, as to my knowledge it has never really worked (or are you aware of any noteworthy musical discussions going on on the wiki talk pages? I don't think I've ever seen any, but obviously I don't know every single page here...) Maybe we should mention the forums instead. What are your thoughts? For design issues, you should probably also be talking to me, since I made the current Main Page and portal. Problem is, such a design is not something I cough up in an hour or so (and I'm not really a designer by trade), and I'm currently very busy myself. In fact, the Contributor Portal is one of the things that I would like to see redesigned myself, but I don't know if I'll get around to it in the near future. Apart from the aesthetics, are there any specific changes that you would suggest? --Leonard Vertighel 17:27, 25 January 2009 (EST)

Archive 2CRHi snailey, I have the impression you want to become a CR ;) If I'm not mistaken, you're not really ready for it as you do more work on the wiki itself. But you make a really good impression on what you do. Of course, the learning curve can be steep :) The problem would be that we would have to recheck the tags of beginners, which means more instead of less work - actually we had a bad experience with one reviewer before the takedown, with sometimes real "tag wars". On the other hand, as each new file is blocked, you don't really have the opportunity to learn... Therefore, a good solution would be to divide CRs in different groups, whose activity can be flagged or monitored (ultimately by our CR Godfather Carolus) and you would get after time a sort of promotion... I don't know how this is programmable, I'll ask Feldmahler. --Peter talk 04:47, 2 February 2009 (EST)
CCARH ScoresHi Snailey, I just got an e-mail from CCARH (at last). They want to have their items mirrored here at IMSLP. They also want to upload everything themselves, so that they can make sure that only the latest, most correct versions of their scores are available. So, I'll be getting rid of the items you uploaded last fall in order that they can have the versions they want here. When Feldmahler returns, he will be coordinating with them for a more automated method of mirroring their scores here. I just wanted to let you know so that you won't spend time uploading any their items. Thanks, Carolus 17:23, 13 February 2009 (EST) (IMSLP Copyright Admin)

We both have an experience of > 10000 tags so I strongly suggest you to start with easy ones and to discuss these difficult ones on the talk pages. I have already talked about this in a PM on the forum. --Peter talk 09:00, 8 March 2009 (EDT)
TypesetsThere are a number of typesets which have been here since before shutdown, like the Beckwith Organ voluntaries you re-tagged. As far as we know, the poster never actually obtained formal permission for these. However, since they've been up so long with no complaints, we tag them C/C/C. It would be helpful if you would list the typesetter as editor (which they are by virtue of the fact they re-typeset the piece) and publisher (which they are by virtue of the fact that they posted the item here) along with changing the copyright status to the Creative Commons Attribution 3.0. I know it probably seems like we're "piling on", but you're stilling learning the fine points. Thanks to your re-tagging of Myaskovsky, I actually discovered a few of the items were PD in the USA after all - and added Amazon links for them. Carolus 14:00, 10 March 2009 (EDT)

new compositionsdear perlnerd, Submitters of copyrighted works (new compositions, new typesets) have to prove they are the copyright holder of the work or they have permission from the copyright holder, unless a CC license or comparable is explicitly mentioned in the file. the permis. granted tag is litteraly what is says, and is meant to use for this circumstances. otherwise use Non-PD. if you do have the permission, please mention it in your tag so we don't have to double-check it. A couple of small things: There's no point in listing her as "editor" since it is assumed that all composers edit their own works (to a greater or lesser degree). Some could be quite obsessive about it (Bruckner and his symphonies, for example). Also, all of her stuff went up on the St. George Tucker website in 2006, so the publisher credit should be the same as it is now on Super Flumina Babylonis for all titles. Everything submitted are really manuscript scans, too. I also include the special copyright permission granted template on original, fully protected works like this in order to try and scare off folks like our friends over at SMA. Mr. Jurgrau (the copyright owner) graciously gave permission for the works to be posted here, so I'm trying to help him out by making sure there are plenty of links back to his site. Buffalo/Erie CollectionHi, This is in reference to Judy Hirsch's post over that the Contributor Portal talk page. I've been in touch with Judy and they have an absolutely enormous collection of scores and parts, nearly all of which are public domain. I'll have to give her a call and confirm things, but this will add something like 30,000 files to what we already have. Please don't announce anything over at the forum until I've confirmed things with her. Needless to say, I'll be in touch with our traveling boss, Feldmahler, about this as well. Dvorak Complete Works templateI think we've discussed this before, but here goes again. The term "Společnost Antonína Dvořáka" means Antonín Dvořák Society. It is the "corporate author" of the complete works edition, not part of the title of the series. I removed this from the template because we don't list the corporate author in any of the other complete works templates, just the title of the complete edition itself (along with series and volume numbers, etc. Also, it's really less than desirable to have 3-4 lines devoted to publisher descriptions of this type unless they're necessary (like to disprove a bogus copyright claim on a reprint). This especially hold true for long pages like the one for the Slavonic Dances. We might want to think about using the acronym SNKLHU or Editio Supraphon instead of the long-winded bureaucratic imprint. Thanks, Carolus 16:17, 3 May 2009 (EDT)
Add Composer pageHi Snailey. I've just finished reviewing the 1700 or so composer category pages, checking their dates of birth and death, Wikipedia links, and adding alternate names. Its absolutely a usefull list dealing with different kinds of b.c. music and organ/harpsichord in different constallations. Read some critic from TOLENTINO, but he points out that he is incompetent.Well I am not.I am a professional organist. Can I have it back please???
one for organ and one for harpsichord. Its already exsisting one list for organ and harpsichord solo. Its totally been used over 100000 times already (Proves that it serves it purpose) This list is almost complete and gives a good overwiew of the content on IMSLP. The reason why i wanted to have organ and harpsichord music in one list is obvious. A lot of the music in the baroque periode is written without specification of instrument. Some of the music are probably written for organ but also played on harpsichord.etc. (I have tried to keep this music on the organ list with comments on the side...Still working on it). Its simply gives a better overwiew to keep it in this way This list have a stylistic approach too. It seems that you now plan to make lists that are: 1.Without completness (Give no indication of the real content of Imslp.) 2.Without a stylistic approach, its all mixed up (nations and styles) Conclution THIS IS ABSOLUTELY NOT BETTER I thought the spirit of IMSLP was to cooperate, not to redo things in a bad way. Instrumentation shorthand on Berlioz pagesHi Snailey, I notice you're lengthening out the Instrumentation fields on a number of pages; can I suggest you be a little more careful with the Berlioz ones? The specifications for most of the works were entered by me directly from theError creating thumbnail: The thumbnail for this file has not been created yet. , so they're usually more accurate than the designation of instruments derived from the old Breitkopf & Härtel edition of Malherbe/Weingartener. Also, you've mangled some of them. For example,
Perhaps leave the shorthand behind somewhere else on the page, or in the instrumentation field after a line <br>eak perhaps? For absolute economy of description, shorthand is useful (believe it or not). Philip Legge @ © talk 00:04, 30 July 2009 (UTC)

Recordings SectionAfter adding the |Recordings= feature to the work page, I realized that it wrecked havoc on the add file function, since people will likely put it before the WORK INFO section (and which would break the add file function). The only reasonable solution to fix it short of a complete code rewrite of that chunk of code is to rename it to |NCRecordings= so that it does not collide with the file-level |Recordings=, and the add file page will make an exception for it. Hence, you will need to change all the pages that you previously added recordings to |NCRecordings=.
Sorry for this! I've tried many things and this is the only sane solution. --Feldmahler 00:19, 6 August 2009 (UTC)
Good to be back! Thanks for the message...I've been continuing to lurk daily, just haven't had a chance to contribute much. Plus there seems to be a lot more people now who are active importing scans from other collections such as Sibley. I've been even more busy than usual - work is still crazy - but a lot of the "busy" now is a good kind, because it is all about music. My husband and I are involved in running our church choir (which continues to get bigger and more enthusiastic) and there is a local amateur orchestra trying to form, which wants to collaborate with our choir as well as steal me and my alto flute. IMSLP is looking fantastic, it just gets bigger and better every day, and I am constantly surprised by how few people know about this amazing resource. Perlnerd666 (Talk | contribs | block) moved Frauenliebe und -leben, Op.42 (Schumann, Robert) to Frauenliebe und leben, Op.42 (Schumann, Robert) Hi Perlnerd, I don't know the correct title of this work, but the title you chose can't be correct, because it's not even proper German. The previous title was at least in correct German, and it is also used by Wikipedia: Frauenliebe und -leben. In the PDF it is given as "Frauen-Liebe und Leben", which might be an older spelling variant. I think it either needs to be moved back to the previous/Wikipedia title, or to the title as given in the PDF. --Leonard Vertighel 07:02, 21 August 2009 (UTC)

ClassicalComposers 01:16, 12 September 2009 (UTC) (Please reply on my talk page, and for further convenience, just add my talk page to your watchlist.) Peters Brahms songsHi, again, Snailey! I'd love to take on the project of finishing up the import of the Peters Brahms songs from Variations myself, but I can't find the directions on how to import. Any way you could help me? I could do the Dover/Gesamtausgabe too if Variations has it. This is where I'd like to start as an IMSLP contributor, and if successful, I have access to such things as the low-key editions of the songs from Peters (which Variations does not have), and much of the Breitkopf Gesamtausgabe (particularly volumes 20 and 21) that Dover never reprinted. I'd like to get a feel for uploading and importing, however, before I attempt my own scans. If there's any way you could help me (when you have the time--no rush!), that'd be fantastic. I'm still an IMSLP virgin, really. Hansenkd 19:33, 15 September 2009 (UTC)
Well thanks for the uploads - and Jsnfm was certainly a good, experienced person to approach. The URL discrepancy is mainly an age thing, if I recall - something about two different servers, mirror server, etc...you could ask someone more in the know.
PD on Sämtliche Werke? One other question: Is the entire Breitkopf & Härtel Sämtliche Werke PD? I ask because I know that 1926/1927 is a very dicey time frame for PD issues. Dover reprinted many of the volumes with some exceptions. When they did the Serenades, they used an earlier edition, not the Complete Works, for example. The volumes from which Dover never reprinted are 4, 11, 18, 21, and 22. There were some Kalmus reprints (most out of print) for such volumes as 22. 21 was never touched by Dover, and would be of particular value here, as it contains the most obscure and difficult to obtain small choral works. I'd really like to do some things from it in the future, but wanted to be clear on PD, wondering if some volumes didn't fall there. I found it suspicious that Dover didn't use it for the Serenades, but I know that around the time they published it, Disney was trying some of their usual funny business with PD laws (that's why we seem so stuck around 1926, the year Mickey Mouse premiered--Disney keeps lobbying for extensions), so maybe they were scared? Some of the Dover reprints have recently gone out of print (most alarmingly, two volumes of the songs). So anyway, would scanning vol. 21 have PD issues? (I don't know if the score can fit on my scanner anyway, but it's worth a try.)--Hansenkd 23:42, 15 October 2009 (UTC)
Finnish translation of main pageHey Perlnerd, I asked Carolus about adding the Finnish translated main page to the list of languages (Etusivu), and I wasn't sure whether it would be better to have the IMSLP-links in the translated page linking to the English translations of pages, or whether I should have them as red links, linking to the creation of the respective Finnish pages - so Carolus suggested I ask some other admins for their opinion :) (I am asking Peter, Daphnis, and you - I have asked the same question exactly to all of you) Let me know what you think - on a sidenote, my Finnish is sloppy to say the best, so we would have to find a native Finnish speaker to do the translations of the pages, as my translations of the titles might not be accurate or correct. -jujimufu 17:12, 16 October 2009 (UTC)

Yes, it's fine. Aleko is being sold by Amazon worldwide. The work was first issued by Gutheil in 1892 or 1893. That's long before the sale to Edition Russe (1914) or Edition Russe's move to Berlin (ca.1920). Right now, I'm still tagging all Gutheil issues from 1919-1943 as protected in EU, including the revised version of Piano Concerto No.1. The full score wasn't issued until after his death by Muzgiz, so that doesn't hold for the EU either as he died a US citizen. The only possible case they can make for EU standing is for those works first issued by Edition Russe/Gutheil after they moved from Russia to Berlin. Carolus 04:02, 18 October 2009 (UTC)

I can understand why, but unfortunately this causes a problem with the Amazon links further down the page. Amazon don't use the TH numbers, and so the work doesn't come up in their listings. Not that this piece is particularly well represented in the catalogues, but if the same were to happen with Romeo and Juliet, for example, then it could be a headache... — P.davydov 14:31, 18 October 2009 (UTC)
Sämtliche Werke projectHey. Since the big Edwards reprint of vol. 21 was giving me fits, I've decided to take a different approach. My Dover reprints will allow me to get a feel for scanning scores, since I can do them directly (I need to figure out an optimal reduction protocol on an excellent copier for the Edwards reprints). I have access to the entire Sämtliche Werke and can complete it in its entirety (in theory, depends on how committed I am to the project). For now, I'm not going to re-scan anything that's here, although I'm not particularly fond of the reset titles and page numbers. So I'm going to gradually fill out the holes in opus number order. You'll see one for Op. 1 today. I think the Sämtliche Werke scores should always show up just below the Lübeck first editions on the work pages, and will work on that as well, even for those that already exist. Regarding the handwritten measure numbers, for some reason B & H included them on everything except the solo piano works and solo songs, so I added them to my scores (following their same protocol for first and second endings, i.e., the first bar of the second ending is the same measure number as the first bar of the first ending, etc.; note 87a at the bottom of p. 3--the previous bar at the end of the last line is 86a, while the next bar, which is the first of the second ending, is 86b--since the first ending only has two bars, the first measure on p. 4 is m. 88). They can be fiddled with during cleanup, or simply removed, but I thought they might be useful to some. For the most part, they should be quite clear.--Hansenkd 14:56, 22 October 2009 (UTC)

VerlagHey - this is all the text I think is related to the publisher: Verlag Gitarrefreund München. Nachdruck verboten, alle Rechte vorbehaiten. a bit below that: Berliner Musikalien Druckerei GmbH If this helps, this is from a collection (or periodical) called "Gitarristische Vereinigung, e.V. Sitz in München" (the volume I am looking at at the monent was published in 1915). It shouldn't be public domain: it was bought before 1923, and there are no editors mentioned anywhere (as far as I can tell). Even if they were, assuming they were 30 years old at the time of editing, they would have to be over 70 for the copyright to be still active in Canada, which is not a common case, I suspect. -jujimufu 21:30, 24 October 2009 (UTC)

Paa Vandring, Op.15 (Sjögren, Emil)Hi, the problem seems to appear when a file name contains more than one successive whitespaces. This also happend to me yesterday while editing. Brahms updateI uploaded a new version of the Op. 1 file that fixed the width issue (first page was wider than all the rest). Op. 2 is coming soon. It will also have the handwritten measure numbers, as will Op. 5, but beyond the piano sonatas, this won't happen. All the other piano works in the Sämtliche Werke have already been uploaded, and I don't intend to add the measure numbers to the solo songs. Speaking of the solo songs, I'm also working to complete the upload of the Peters high voice editions from Variations (and standardize the descriptions on the work pages). In addition, I'm helping Piupianissimo to finish up the low voice Peters editions by sending him scans to clean up. There's also a "middle edition" for volume 1 only (out of 4 volumes), which we will also add since some of the "middle" keys are the original ones (for example, Op. 19, No. 4 and even the Lullaby Op. 49, No. 4). With this and the addition of the scans from the Dover reprint of the song volumes from the Sämtliche Werke, the collection of Brahms song scores will end up being quite exhaustive. Eventually, we could also add the Peters editions of the duets and quartets. They don't have dates, but I'm pretty sure they are P.D. They don't show up in the Edition Peters page here, but I can give you plate numbers to verify PD status.--Hansenkd 06:07, 30 October 2009 (UTC)

I see that you added Mineola to the reprint mention and that the work has been classified in non PD - EU. I am not sure why. The scan is made on the reprint Dover Publications in New York, not Mineola, published in 1977. Apart from the page numbers (pp. 149-153), the reprint is an exact facsimile of the original Ditson 1906 edition that I also have (pp.115-119). Thus I do not see why it would not be PD in EU. Archive 8Grieg's Holberg Suite partsHi Perlnerd. I was wondering, why did you tag the orchestral parts of Grieg's Holberg Suite (#17680 to #17684) with {{OrchPartsProj}} while they (obviously) do not come from this source ? Best regards and happy new year, --Matthieu 07:30, 8 January 2010 (UTC)
Vocal worksHi Snailey. Thanks for all your efforts with the tagging. Just checking whether you knew about including all the soloists in the vocal works where the range is known (so "sop alt ten bass" instead of "4vv")? It came up on the project discussion page yesterday, but you might not have seen the memo :-) — P.davydov 18:06, 8 January 2010 (UTC) CategoriesHello again. I've just had to alter your tag for La Clemenza di Tito to "vv ch orch", as you forgot about the chorus (and they don't like that) :-) BTW, if there are two sopranos or two mezzo-sopranos involved, then you can use "2sop" and "2 mez", as with orchestral instruments. With operas it's sometimes safer to use "vv" to stand for all the voices, just in case the cast lists omit out any of the minor roles (as they often do). Hello Perlnerd,
By reading my last sentence again, I'm not sure how it sounds to a native speaker. What I wanted to say is: Missing Englishhorn parts: Bach Christmas OratoryIn part 2 of the Christmas Oratory, there should be two additional Englishhorn (Oboe da caccia) parts, which are missing from the downloaded set. These are indepedent parts, different from the sometimes printed eh as alternative to ob damore. Altogether there are 4 oboe + eh players in part 2. Are these parts missing from the OMCL set? BeethovenI believe Beethoven was more of a Romantic composer than a Classical one. I can see, however, that his compositions before 1803 should be considered Classical in style, but not those from Beethoven's 3rd symphony and after, which are more Romantic than anything in style. Therefore, marking pieces composed from the 3rd symphony and after as Classical in style is inaccurate. And your reverts of my edits are worthless. Where in your policy does it say that Beethoven should uncompromisingly be marked as a Classical era composer? Classicalfan2 14:58, 25 April 2010 (UTC)

OOhhh, I see just now my Sibley medal!! Thanks.. Bassani is ok, so we will manage that. Salut. Amandariz - BachHave you looked at these? The edition he did for Canata No.9, for example, consists of prefaces, scores and parts for Nos.1 and 9 only (the choruses). Given the rather eccentric nature of these, I am wondering if the complete volumes of his work would be best to list under Amandariz, perhaps with excerpts appearing on the regular Bach pages. It would take a lot of work to split out individual numbers, the parts from the scores, etc. Carolus 19:49, 7 May 2010 (UTC)

The overture is missing a couple of pages towards the end (23 bars according to the VS), unfortunately this seems to be a mistake by the original scanners of the work. Philip Legge @ © talk 04:34, 5 June 2010 (UTC) Bach CantatasIt's a good thing you're going at a "snail's pace" on these! the vocal score situation is "complicated." CDSM (which is where bh2000 got the vocal scores from) scanned Kalmus reprints of all of the Cantata vocal scores. Kalmus, who started reprinting the vocal scores as far back as the 1930s, naturally never bothered to say what they were reprinting. Breitkopf issued vocal scores for nearly all of the cantatas between 1890 and 1896, with piano reductions by Bernhard Todt, in German (or Latin) only. Peters issued series of about 115 vocal scores starting in the 1870s, with piano reductions by Gustav Rösler, also in German (or Latin) only. Starting around 1930, Breitkopf issued a new series of vocal scores (re-engraved usually) supposedly with reductions by Günter Raphael (1903-1960), in German plus English and French. Everything engraved in Leipzig was probably done in Röder's giant music factory, so it's a real challenge to figure what is what. Carolus 01:49, 3 June 2010 (UTC)

Issues with new versions of Op. 106, Nos. 1-2Hi. Sorry to bug you. I uploaded versions of the high voice editions for Op. 106 and Op. 121, culled from the Variations Project. I found, after uploading them, that I had messed up the pdf conversions on all 9 files by not unchecking the "fit to page" box. I fixed all the files on my hard drive, then uploaded the new versions. This worked great for all of Op. 121 and Nos. 3-5 of Op. 106, but for some reason, Op. 106, Nos. 1-2 are having issues displaying. It's weird. The new versions of the files are showing up when I click on the archives for various reverts, but they are having problems displaying from the actual upload links, and No. 1 is even saying it is damaged (which I know is not true--you can look at it perfectly fine in the revert archives). If you can fix this, I'd be grateful. It looks like the copyright review has not been done for the new versions on either opus. Again, sorry for the bother. I can say categorically that there is nothing intrinsically wrong with the two revised files. Something is going wrong with the upload of the new versions. You can look at all the reverts on these files, and they show up fine--but when I try to make these "good" versions current, the "current" version still won't display.--Hansenkd 03:02, 5 June 2010 (UTC)

Featured: Rachmaninoff's Vespers, Op.37Hi, I'm just curious why a work by Rachmaninov appears in the featured scores list. Of course, I really love his works :) but I'm sure they're not PD in the EU and other 70+ countries, even as urtext. Hobbypianist 16:24, 14 June 2010 (UTC)
Here's the odd thing: Composers who died before 1953 are PD in Russia, which is where the work was composed and first published. Under the EU's Rule of the Shorter Term, all works from before 1918 would theoretically be free in the EU (since their country of origin is Russia) - unless there is a standing bilateral treaty or some other legal reason which over-rides the Rule of the Shorter Term. The Russian law went from 50pma to 70pma in 2003 and was not retroactive, though there are some composers (perhaps Rachmaninov is one?) who were denounced by the Soviet regime and only "rehabilitated" after its fall in 1991 who are eligible for additional protection under the Russian law. Since Muzgiz certainly published his works, it strikes me that he was not on the blacklist of composers declared to be "non-persons." I have not yet consistently tagged his works, partly because I am really not very certain about what his status actually is in the EU - and I'm not willing to simply take Boosey & Hawkes' word for it (since they have a vested interest in claiming all are protected for 70pma). Thanks for the message on Feldmahler's pageUmm... well I just need all files listed under David Hamlin removed, or at least the folders removed so i can redo it with each file having its own listing, atm I've got listings like "Trio and 2 short piano pieces Op.15" which is annoying me. Gregorian ChantDear Perlnerd666, I've read your and PML's discussion on Early Music and saw 'Complete Gregorian Chant' at your user page. Indeed we have only the (hypothetical) melodies, but not the rhythm, the neumes. They are as important as the tones. At least, we need some of the most important of the earliest manuscripts as Cantatorium St. Gallen, Stiftsbibliothek, Cod. Sang. 359. But I'm worried about that. What do you think? I'm happy to help out during busy periods, but I didn't know there was a backlog. I just happened to notice that some new works had been tagged for the categorization project but still hadn't been copyright reviewed after a couple of days. Maybe the other 12 copyright reviewers, like me, assume that with such a big team 'someone else will do it', and we need a gentle nudge from time to time :-) — P.davydov 16:01, 15 August 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for helping out, Davydov (especially with all of your other projects - you really do an amazing amount of work). A couple things: you tagged some files as, for instance, V/V/2118 (i.e. more than 100 years to go for the EU). This should actually be 2018 (or whatever the corresponding year is) - 1947 + 70 years = 2018 :-) Also, if something looks like it was engraved ca.1820 or a similarly ancient date, the tag will be V/V/V even if we have no idea what the authors' dates are (I noticed you tagged at least one of these as C/V/C - we can pretty safely assume that no one lives to be more than 140 years old). Thanks, KGill talk email 19:48, 15 August 2010 (UTC)

Cleaning up some things on Hummel's category page (splitting his piano trios, etc) I ran across a duplicate: http://imslp.org/wiki/Piano_Trio_No.1,_Op.12_(Hummel,_Johann_Nepomuk) I merged it so there would only be one work page with this title, so I think it should just be deleted. Op.83 will need to eventually be deleted, too, as there will end up being a duplicate. http://imslp.org/wiki/Piano_Trio,_Op.83,_E_major_(Hummel,_Johann_Nepomuk) .I think I'm right, but could be mistaken. RoSTIn connection with the Rule of the Shorter Term I've been wondering- I see pages like 12 Etudes, Op.8 (Scriabin, Alexander) and think is there a RoST rule in Canada also? (Either the files edited by Milstein are not permissible, or they are permissible because of the combination of some form of RoST rule and the copyright situation in Russia in 1981. BGA prefacesHi Snailey. These have always sat awkwardly in their current position, and I wondered whether they might be better placed all together in a sub-page of the BGA itself, say: Johann Sebastian Bach - Complete Works Edition/Prefaces (with links from the main complete works page)? The thematic catalogue specific to this edition could be handled in the same way (since this is also a works about Bach, rather than by him? On a related point, would the title of the complete works edition be better under its old title of Bach-Gesellschaft Ausgabe (or Johann Sebastian Bach - Bach-Gesellschaft Ausgabe), which is how it's referred to everywhere except on its very own page? This would be more consistent with our policy of preferring titles in the original language (e.g. Liszt's Neue Liszt Ausgabe), although the current Editions category is fairly inconsistent in the way collected works are titled — P.davydov 19:28, 31 December 2010 (UTC)
That's an interesting thought. Of course, another inconsistency is "Robert Alexander Schumann" vs. "Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart"—I think we might be better off without "Johann Cryosostom Wolfgang Theophilius Mozart: Alte-Mozart Ausgabe" :)-- Snailey (_@/) Talk to Me Email me 23:04, 31 December 2010 (UTC) Oh, and Johann Sebastian Bach - Complete Works Edition/Thematic Catalogue-- Snailey (_@/) Talk to Me Email me 23:05, 31 December 2010 (UTC)

Before doing so, however, I have to say that searching (at least using the IMSLP search facilities I can locate) as you suggest produces pages and pages of ill-assorted and largely undifferentiated entries, with insufficient information to decide anything about the results without visiting each page. Very time-consuming, indeed. First of all, I would ask, why do we have two (uncategorized) categories (numbers 1 and 2 in the "Special Pages/uncategorized categories" category at the time of writing) if a search on time period intersected with first editions or manuscripts worked? Second, 18th C means 1700 to 1800, while the Baroque period as defined here means 600-1750. Facsimiles from 1600-1700 pass through a wide orthographic range from sharp-cornered White Mensural Notation to notation so close to modern that it is identical to many 19th century prints which would hardly be considered "facsimile" as a PDF scan. There is a specific period, roughly that of the French High Baroque, in which music which would fall into a comfortable "18th C facsimile", are beginning to appear as PDFs on IMSLP and the Internet in general, and it is this period I am primarily tagging: Marais, Caix, Rameau, Couperin, Boismortier: works printed with notation very close to modern, which can be sight-read 'off the page' from facsimiles, directly. I feel that it is important that these pieces be tagged in one unified (if uncategorized!) group. Third, many times, a first edition is not available in facsimile/scan/pdf, and, indeed, not available at all. Nor is a manuscript: where a second, third or whatever printed edition is all that is available or all that has been scanned, a search on First Edition OR Manuscript(s) would miss what could be extremely important examples. This is why I am tagging these pieces: largely because it is something that would have made my life easier, and more long-term because I believe that the century-delimited categories are a valid research tool. (I am not planning to tag 18th-century prints which are close enough to the Barenreiter standard that most people would be hard pressed to consider the scans 'facsimiles', but others may disagree and add them to the tag at their liberty.) Finally, I believe that it is very important for scholars (and students at all levels) to be able to locate scans of historically-intact examples of music in its original notation. I also hope that people will do as I am doing, and learn to read and interpret the music from the original "under fire", as it were, just as the musicians did, in their time. I believe that it is also important for those who will edit this music from these sources in the future to be able to find it: that's why it's being put here in IMSLP, and why, I believe, IMSLP exists. I believe it is also important to expand the listings under 17th and 16th Century facsimiles, and add, to the extent that IMSLP has them, 15th Century facsimiles as well. So I ask, is there something wrong or counter to IMSLP's policies for me to be tagging 18th century facsimiles explicitly? Talk to MeTiorbinist 00:01, 3 January 2011 (UTC)
Thanks for the "IMSLP Star"I've recently discovered that the "IMSLP Star" has been awarded to me for my activity on IMSLP Forums and IMSLP-EU hosting. Thank you very much! Max a.k.a. Choralia 13:27, 3 January 2011 (UTC)

Music Publishers/Manual of StyleHello PerInerd666, you are using the term M2s, M3s at the site: Music Publishers/Manual of Style. Im translating it to German and don't know these abbreviations. Can you help me? Another question: On IMSLP:Music_Publishers is written: "The columns need to be sortable. Therefore, when multiple entries exist for one publisher, start a new column for the new entry." Is this correct? I think it should be "...start a new line for the new entry"?! --TobisNotenarchiv 12:01, 7 January 2011 (UTC)

I just wanted to ask whether you think it is feasible to include recordings in the daily featured music selections. They do not have to be updated as frequently (unless you want to), but it strikes me as a possibly good idea to make people realize that IMSLP includes many recordings as well. --Feldmahler 01:47, 13 January 2011 (UTC)

No particular reason actually. I could certainly do that for some of these recordings, to improve "publicity."
That sounds fine.-- Snailey (_@/) Talk to Me Email me 22:21, 17 January 2011 (UTC) Veteran EditorWhat is the veteran editor image for? Lndlewis10 20:55, 15 January 2011 (UTC)
No—I guess I don't want to transfer the whole system (after all, even Wikipedia hasn't been around 15 years).-- Snailey (_@/) Talk to Me Email me 21:03, 15 January 2011 (UTC) Music Publishers pageHi Snailey, I worked on that page today, Grus, Enoch, Troupenas. I see now that, if someone want to find the publisher with the plate, he can search in an alphabetic order.. Plate A. ### to Plate Z. #### - But when the publisher used differents systems year after year (and we informe about that with different lines for a single publisher, using ---<hide>), one can't found the info each time - Example: I have a score with E.T.& Cie... I search by alphabetic order Plates A to Z...and look at E... I can't found the name of Troupenas, there is a blank 'cause Troupenas has ### before 1835 and T.#### after and E. T. & Cie.#### after 1844. Is it possible to do something ? Is my question clear ? --Squin 08:13, 16 January 2011 (UTC)
Thanks Snailey.. (It can't really do what I want so I'll search in another way) Squin 17:10, 21 January 2011 (UTC) |

Archive 142 Pieces (Rameau, Jean-Philippe)The files can't stay as "2 Pieces", can they? Do you happen to know what should be done with them? I don't know if the PDF contains several different pieces, or if it is a suite. Thanks, Lndlewis10 18:42, 16 January 2011 (UTC)
Complete score 1 is a odd mix of 7 François Couperin's various pieces for harpsichord - 6 took from "2è Ordre" (not in a good order) and 1 from "5è Ordre" & Complete score 2 is a mix of Rameau's various pieces from "Pièces de clavecin avec méthode sur la mécanique des doigts" and "Nouvelles suite pièces de pièces de clavecin" Unclassifiable ! Liszt SongsHi Perlnerd666, on the occasion of Liszt's anniversary, this could be interesting: I've heard on the radio that Brahms and Schumann (I never had expected) tried to prevent that Liszt becomes known as a Lied Composer - with some success. Probably IMSLP has got the largest collection of those works by him. Cheers --Ralph Theo Misch 00:31, 29 January 2011 (UTC)

Honestly, I don't know (I just took it off the US server). As you're a CR, it's fine for you to look into the file to check the CR status or in this case specific information about the publication, no?-- Snailey (_@/) Talk to Me Email me 15:43, 13 February 2011 (UTC)

sorry about that.also, was confused and was wondering if I might ask advice myself. - was helping out, or trying to (badly!)- user EFerreri - who wished files on his pages , all but the most recent ones, deleted, but couldn't see the links that did so. (... actually, wonder if it's a browser settings issue, or something, come to think of it.) I misread the instructions and told him- against rationality and my own recollection- that he had to be an admin to do so (as is true of work and file -pages-). which is why he then went and placed the delete tag on the file page. I will restore it, and I apologize for causing the misunderstanding and generally messing up, though I wish I could figure out why the fellow's browser can't seem to see the delete links -on- the file pages... bit of a puzzle. CRHi Perlnerd. I hate to criticize, but would you mind perhaps being a bit more careful about the files you tag for copyright status? Just today, you tagged four files here as being PD in the EU (Italian composer, d.1942), and you also tagged a file on this page !N/!N/!N even though there is no evidence the uploader has permission to make an arrangement of this work - the original appears to be under a No Derivatives license. (I am currently waiting for his response.) Thanks, KGill talk email 23:51, 17 June 2011 (UTC)

CR againHi Perlnerd. I noticed you retagged one of my V/V/C tags for an unpublished manuscript as V/V/V. According to new guidelines first adopted in December (though not really formally until a few weeks ago; see No.2 in the EU section on that page), the availability through online European library collections of manuscripts that were never previously published might fit the definition of first publication in the EU, and therefore they should be tagged as C for that area. Thanks, KGill talk email 00:45, 26 July 2011 (UTC)
User PageHi Perlnerd! I happen to know you are meticulous about your user page and other things. Don't mind my "goofing around" with new templates (that may or may not be useful) and such, but you should take a look and see if there's anything you want to incorporate. Cheers, Lndlewis10 05:18, 29 July 2011 (UTC)
Oh, and you might want to take the code for the grey background out of the collapsible sections—it was only to fit in with the rest of my user page (easier on the eyes, I believe, was my reasoning...or something).-- Snailey (_@/) Talk to Me Email me 05:20, 29 July 2011 (UTC)
I haven't really been around, as you might have noticed—thus I have no clue about activity from "newer" users, and don't know to whom to award awards. I didn't realize that I was the designated giver of awards—go ahead.

See my note on Icactus' talkpage about the potential copyright pitfalls with authors and translators. All countries with "Life-plus" terms base the term on the last surviving contributor. So a song with text by Reginald De Koven's daughter Ethel (b.1885) could still be protected even in Canada. Carolus 02:55, 30 July 2011 (UTC)
French version of Mozart's Ave verumDear Perlnerd666, well it's for mixed chorus and harmonium. But the instrumental part could be just as well for piano or organ. So I put it to the vocal scores. I hope it's ok. Regards --Ralph Theo Misch 23:36, 3 August 2011 (UTC)

This was a case of a little misinterpretation—the M.R. plate number pins it as a volume of the complete works edition. It might simply be a direct reprint of U.E., but the actual publisher is Breitkopf. Cheers-- Snailey (_@/) Talk to Me Email me 23:37, 4 August 2011 (UTC)
