Franz Schubert. |
I live in Melbourne (Australia), practice medicine by day to pay the bills, and play music after hours to keep myself sane. I play the piano and flute, definitely at amateur level but enough to accompany Schubert-Lieder and take part in a few chamber ensembles with other frustrated medicos.
I also play piano/keyboard for a small but enthusiastic church choir, experiment with an alto flute and sometimes cause noise pollution on my piccolo, and am an avid collector of old sheet music. (More so since I discovered IMSLP).
My favourite composer has always been Schubert and I have a dream of seeing his complete works here on IMSLP (yes, including fragmentary, unfinished, "lost" and previously unpublished material). But I'm not just a one-eyed "Schubert nut" - I love just about anything from the 18th and 19th centuries, particularly chamber music or anything which involves a flute. Composers I would love to see more of on IMSLP include: the sons of Bach, Boccherini, Quantz, Vivaldi, Devienne, Hummel, the Stamitz family, Vanhal, Pleyel, the rest of the Mozart family (Leopold and Franz Xaver), Clara Schumann and Fanny Mendelssohn.
