(That is, Biene wrote a dramatic work- which became quite popular - called "The Broken Melody"- which ran, according to his Musical Times obituary, some 6000 times with the composer in it; the name also refers to this tune from the dramatic production.)

The play is by James T. Tanner (music by Biene.)
