  • Some sources have this piece as Pange lingua. The (incorrect) name Pange lingua is coming from the first edition by Joseph Venantius Wöß (1914). The by Bruckner composed Tantum ergo was then issued as the not-composed first strophe of the hymn, i.e., Pange lingua and was classified by Grasberger as "Pange lingua, WAB 32" (between Pange lingua, WAB 31 and Pange lingua, WAB 33).
  • The piece was presumably composed in the fall of 1845 in Kronstorf before Bruckner moved to St. Florian (or possibly just after moving). Bruckner dedicated the piece to the St. Florian Abbey, where it was possibly performed at the end of the same year.
  • Max Auer's score contains the full version of the hymn. The other scores are of the shortened version of the hymn, i.e., without the optional ("vi-de") bars 24-34. See Commented discography by Hans Roelofs.
