Hoboken mentions no score or parts prior to the 20th century complete published edition (Breitkopf und Härtel Bd.3, for which ÖNB estimates a publication date of ca.1920. However, Hoboken gives 1907 and yet another, 1910?)
Hoboken's "collections" section mentions other manuscript copies of no.40 by "WmFr" (Coll.Sy.18, page 37, I:40 "as Sinfonia XXV", and p.40, a score copy in volume 12) but apparently no published parts. The 37 Simrock publications (of 1812/3) and the 60-plus Deldevez copy-scores also do not contain no.40. (Perhaps because one gathers it has sometimes been attributed to Michael Haydn rather than Joseph??)
