Extra Information | In the autumn of 1881, Svendsen was invited by his publisher, Carl Warmuth, to compose a romance – and completed it in two days. It was first published on 30 October 1881. Little did he imagine that it would become his most popular work, and arguably one of the most popular works in the romantic repertoire. The piece appeared in almost 70 printed editions in his lifetime. The composer also arranged the work for violin and piano. Publication History |
