Composed around the time of his proposal/engagement to his first wife (harpist Dorette Scheidler), in late 1805 (possibly early 1806). Not sure when first published, though. (By 1810 at any rate- listed in the February 1810 AMZ Intelligenz-Blatt, along with concerto 2.)

Swalin, 1941, p.13, "The violin concerto: a study in German romanticism": dedicated to Rodolphe Kreutzer, finished in 1805 @ Altenburg.
