Extra Information | Review 5 June 1816 on AMZ. Like String Sextet, Op.38, by Ferdinand David for 3 violins, viola and 2 cellos, (published 1860), and the String Sextet, Op.40, by Jan Brandts Buys for 3 violins, 2 violas and cello (published 1917), this sextet also is laid out for an almost unique combination of instruments. In terms of difficulty the work is about equivalent to a Mozart quintet. The first violin part is quite demanding, and viola 1 has some solos. The other parts are of moderate interest. Considering the date of publication the parts are fairly legible, though enlargement to B4 would help. There are no measure numbers or rehearsal letters in the parts. |
