A notice January 1 1861 from Leipzig in The Athenaeum, no.1732, 5 January 1861, page 23, gives a positive review to performances of both this and Brahms’s 1st sextet at the Gewandhaus concerts (and notes a performance of Jadassohn’s 1st symphony also, among other works, during the preceding season.) So premiered not later than, say, December 1860.
