There is conflicting information about this piece's origins. The text comes from Morselli's libretto Temistocle in Bando. There was a 1698 pasticcio of Temistocle, with acts by Lulier, Ziani, and Bononcini, respectively. Since the text is from Act 2, BnF lists this piece as by Ziani.
It later appeared in Ottorino Respighi's Antiche cantate d'amore, arranged for voice and piano. Respighi listed it as "anonymous, 17th century." It is possible an unknown composer (not Ziani) set his own music to Morselli's words. Until we can confirm the piece is indeed by Ziani, tagged as anonymous for now.
