On the cover page, Breitkopf advertises the piece as "für Flöte und Streichorchester (5 Str.)" It is unclear whether they are just selling 5 parts in the set, or whether it is really intended to be played with single strings. Compared to other works advertised on the page, e.g. "Schumann, Op.86. Konzertstück für 4 Hörner, F dur. (26 St.)", the number in brackets seems to be the number of string parts sold in the set.
- St. is, I'm sure, Stimme. Not sure if there are 26 separate parts sold with the Schumann- quite possibly. Str. - streicher - is something else of course- and I'm left unsure what's meant too. Eric 20:47, 18 September 2010 (UTC)
- According to this review, a recording on the MDG label with the Berolina Ensemble uses flute with string quintet.
