It was founded in 1861 by the composer C.F.E. Horneman (1840–1906) in Copenhagen, Denmark.[1] However, it was managed by his father, the composer Emil Horneman (1809–1870), who was forced to sold his share of his own company Horneman & Erslev in 1859 in order to prevent bankruptcy.[2] After the death of Emil Horneman in 1870, C.F.E. Horneman took over the management of the company. In 1875, the company was sold to Wilhelm Hansen.
Not all publications have plate number. For those with plate numbers, it seems that these numbers are used in a chronological manner using the the format ###.
