William Hodsoll was a London publisher operating from ca.1794 to ca.1831.
In 1794 Hodsoll was operating in Seven Oaks, Kent; shortly before 1800 he moved to London, succeeding the business of Francis Linley (who had succeeded Lewis, Houston & Hyde) at the premises formerly occupied by John Bland at 45 Holborn.
The firm was quite productive, issuing over 370 works. Typical items were arrangements such as Pleyel's celebrated symphony adapted for the piano forte, with accompaniments for a flute, violin & violoncello (ad libitum) by S. F. Rimbault and lavishly decribed theatrical songs such as The bird catcher, or Catch as catch can : a comic pastoral burletta as performed with the utmost applause at Sadlers Wells; op. 5, composed by V. De Cleve. Hodsoll was succeeded by Zenas Trivett Purday in 1831, who continued at the same address until 1860.
