Received its English premiere 14 January 1913 in Plymouth according to the Musical Times (February 1, 1913, page 118) (Harold Lake, piano/Percy Lowman, violin.) First performance was by March 1912. See Le Guide musical, 58me Année, Numéro 13, 31 Mars 1912, "Dernières publications musicales" (review of the Schott publication - mentions that the work was "exécutée au dernier concert des Compositeurs belges." Amusingly, an article later in the same volume, in a September 1912 issue, mentions that the sonata will be premiered in a autumn concert series in Paris, organized by Armand Parent. Perhaps the French premiere is meant. It is worth seeing that article also (p.529) if only because other (French?) premieres of interest are also listed, e.g. Victor Vreuls' piano quartet.)


Sonata copyrighted 1936 according to the Catalog of Copyright Entries (but that was no doubt a renewal. Still, it suggests _1911_ for copyright date.

According to the Library of Congress catalog, opus 11 was also assigned by Schott, in 1922, to a Chant élégiaque for violin or cello and piano. (Not having seen this it is possible that this was the slow movement of this sonata with a transcription for cello included. One source has this Chant composed in 1915, however. Odd.)
