Library at Madrid conjectures that the work dates to ca.1825. They are mistaken, however (see Bärwolf biography, p.292).

Bärwolf lists two violin concertos and gives composition dates 1836 Paris, and premiere date of 1837, Brussels for this one, and 1839 (unfinished)/1869 October ("refait en octobre") for the 2nd concerto in A (it's left unclear whether in doing it over Hanssens actually -did- _finish_ concerto 2 too- in another place Bärwolf says only one concerto- but on the other hand he writes that he made a reduction of the 2nd concerto (as he did of the first) so perhaps it does exist at least in ms.)
