Schubert Quintet

Well... the best way is to simply scan them in B&W with no conversion (maybe in an even higher resolution, since they compress to pretty small files anyway). But if you don't have time to rescan it, don't worry! You can upload them to IMSLP, without submitting them, and I'll take a look at the file and see if there's a way to make it smaller without losing quality. If everything else fails, I'll submit it as is; I'm kind of a quality-freak... I'll take a 78MB high quality PDF over a 3MB medium quality PDF any day :) And yes, grayscale usually doesn't convert well to monochrome :/

By the way, it might be a good idea to split the 78MB file into several chunks (pdftk maybe?) before uploading, since this server is really not very stable, and a 78MB upload has a high chance of timing out...

In any case, I'm very happy that you scanned the piece :) --Feldmahler 22:35, 20 December 2006 (EST)

P.S. I forgot to add that I might be away for a few days, so I might not be able to look at them right away... --Feldmahler 23:28, 20 December 2006 (EST)

I agree with your decision entirely... but I'm still going to be away probably for a few days so I might not get to the files until a while later :( --Feldmahler 14:27, 22 December 2006 (EST)

Reply to the Proposal for new categories

Very nice idea :) And I see you've implemented the category already. I agree with you on the last point... we'll need to be as cautious as we can. I have not yet heard anything from Mr.Aperghis, which is unfortunate :/ I will probably remove the scores soon, as I think I have already given him fair notice, and him not replying I will take to mean that either he doesn't care about whether the score is on IMSLP, or he doesn't want the score to be on IMSLP... and I think it might be safer to assume the latter. Thank you for pointing this out though :)

Also, sorry for the late reply... I was on the road and didn't have internet access :/ --Feldmahler 23:33, 27 December 2006 (EST)

Schubert

Hi EmeraldImp, I noticed that you have taken on the task of the Schubert string works that appear in the Dover volume, which is itself a reprint from the Breitkopf & Hartel complete works edition from the late 19th century. Gutenberg has already scanned this volume and has the tiff files (all 79 MB worth) available for download here. It might save you some time in scanning!

Best Wishes, --Carolus 6 Jan. 07

Hello, I read about your mission of the schubert quartets... I felt free to add you to a little project that I added on the Current projects page... --Peter 15:10, 11 February 2007 (EST)

Glenn Gould

That is an authorized reprint of the score. Thanks! Egknob 21:24, 11 March 2007 (EDT)

Site Notice

I didn't know that was possible haha :) But I think it is a good idea to use it in the case of urgent messages (and perhaps donation progress like Wikipedia sometimes does)... the corrupted download warning is already in the news pane and on the rating special page, which should catch most people who has this problem :)

Nice find though :) --Feldmahler 19:01, 28 April 2007 (EDT)

I noticed that there was someone who asked about this on the Gypsy Rondo page, which is why I suppose you added that message. I think there inevitably will be some people who ask about this; the only thing we can do is to point them to the appropriate place (the external page or the news pane of the main page)... :) --Feldmahler 19:48, 28 April 2007 (EDT)
Yeah, I'd been wondering for a while how to do such a thing, and I was going to ask you if you knew how, but then I said, "I bet I can find this out on my own." And so I did. Yeah, it was because of the Gypsy Rondo one, and I had a momentary vision of thousands of pages to have to point to the article (I told you I can overreact)... But, as you say, now we know how to do it! --Emeraldimp 12:27, 29 April 2007 (EDT)

Wikipedia interwiki

Hello Emeraldimp, you may be glad to hear - if you haven't noticed already - that our request for an IMSLP interwiki prefix in Wikipedia has finally been accepted. However, I would suggest that we continue keeping an eye on it. Firstly, it will probably take a few months before it is actually implemented, and there is a small risk that it gets thrown out if it conflicts with something else. Secondly, there is an ongoing discussion (part of it can be found at the end of the interwiki map talk page) about dissociating the link syntax from the nofollow issue. This could mean that a separate "nofollow whitelist" is established, and in that case we should take care that IMSLP is included. (In case you didn't know, in Wikipedia the external links get the rel="nofollow" attribute by default. This means that they are not taken into account by Google for determining the pagerank. Currently, those links that are made with an interwiki prefix don't get the attribute, so they do count for pagerank.) --Leonard Vertighel 04:17, 4 May 2007 (EDT)

Yay! That is good news. Yes, I knew about the rel=nofollow stuff. Can't say I blame them, though... I imagine they get a heckuva lot of spam.  :-) --Emeraldimp 11:00, 4 May 2007 (EDT)
We've been lucky: in the course of the launch of the new Wikipedia in Kabyle language, the interwiki map has been copied to the database. The prefix scores: now links to IMSLP. I have switched 18 templates to the interwiki syntax (templates are a great invention). Now there should be some 2000 links in 16 languages (about 1/4 of them in English) without rel="nofollow" attribute. I think that an increase in Google ranking is to be expected over the next few weeks.
By the way, I wasn't blaming them for the nofollow attribute - I think that it's a quite natural reaction to the spam issue. We should just keep an eye on the further developments, and if a "nofollow whitelist" is really implemented, act accordingly. --Leonard Vertighel 10:06, 7 May 2007 (EDT)

IMSLP #03575

It was indeed corrupt. I replaced the file with the original. Cheers Peter talk 12:52, 7 May 2007 (EDT)

Trio No. 2 for Piano, Violin and Cello, Op. 100, D. 929 (Schubert, Franz)

Hello Friend, Thank you for your good scores you have added. Please check Trio No. 2 for Piano, Violin and Cello, Op. 100, D. 929 (Schubert, Franz) because it misses page 173

Hmm, yes, it is... Unfortunately, there's nothing I can do about it, because the scans were from the Gutenberg Score Archive, and so I don't have a book from which I could scan the page. :-/ --Emeraldimp 11:59, 8 May 2007 (EDT)

hi!

WOW, physics AND linguistics? and musicist? what kind of evil genius are you?

Hi Emeraldimp! A heads up that Hobbypianist has already beaten you to removing the LC logos ;) Just wanted to notify you so you don't duplicate the effort unknowingly :) --Feldmahler 04:55, 6 June 2007 (EDT)

numeralization?

some pieces are actually known with their original language numbers. like liszt's "douze etude"-series, and his "fünf klavierstücke". numeralization is good to some degree, but not when works get mixed up or when "new works" simply appear.. --Funper talk 14:34, 28 June 2007 (EDT)

I'm not sure what you mean by "new works simply appear", but it seems to me to be more 'international' - regardless of how the work may be commonly known - to use numerals when possible. Most musicians will recognize "etude" and "klavierstücke" as the word of primary importance, and 12 is pronounced "douze" as easily as it is pronounced "twelve" (at least to me). (see also [1].) Mostly I just don't see the problem, and there's the difficulty of knowing when to change and when not to (arguably it ought to be left to those who are most familiar with those works, but that requires someone who is familiar; also, what about pieces that are known by different names in different areas?). --Emeraldimp 15:28, 28 June 2007 (EDT)
I will have to agree with Emeraldimp on this one. I know very well that some pieces are better known with original language numbers (Fünf Klavierstücke is a good example, and not just Liszt), but for the sake of making it more accessible to people who do not know German (or whatever language the number is in), I think that using numeric numbers as a compromise is necessary. Whereas in certain cases it may not look as good, it should be fine if we standardize it and use it across the library, since consistency is preserved. This may not be the most ideal solution, but I believe it is the best one in this case. --Feldmahler 16:14, 28 June 2007 (EDT)

Hello!

Hi! I'm a new member of the site and a fellow saxophonist. I was wondering if you knew any good sax solos on this site or where I could get some. I have been looking with little success. (Please reply on my talk page) Thanks!! Rynokey237 17:41, 23 July 2007 (EDT)

    • Ok thank you! I will keep looking :)

Greetings

Glad to be here - how does one change incorrect spelling on a composer's name? I came across the composer Paul de Maleingreau here on IMSLP, and his name is incorrectly spelled on the composer list and his page - misspelled name - should be Maleingreau not Meleingreau. You can answer me here or on my User Talk

Thanks!

Missing Pages in Tchaikovsky's String Quartet No 2

Sorry mate, just wondering if you saw my comment. Just 2 pages missing from there. Wrote in the history of the score and tried to look for you on Jabber with no luck. --Tanl2

Schubert String Quintet, individual parts?

Hi, I was just wondering if you had the individual parts to Schubert's C major String Quintet? If you do, I'd be incredibly greatful if you could upload them! Thanks

It would be very nice to to upload the parts-particellas for the Tchaikovsky String Quartet No. 1. Thanks for you work here! Ana

Missing page Schubert op. 100

Hello Emeraldimp,

I've found the missing page of the piano trio by Schubert. Ralph Theo Misch, Talk to Me 20:53 MEZ, July, 21th, 2009

Hello. nice page. So many good music.

I am musician also. Student. We play string quartet. I found Molly on the shore on Your page, but cannot print them to try to play. Could you explane the reason or could You share parts, or score? Thank you :p

  • Hi there... Unfortunately, Molly on the Shore is not PD outside of the US (specifically, not PD in Canada), so it was removed several years ago when some purging was done. Emeraldimp

So shame. I'll try look for it at library.  :(
