Well... the best way is to simply scan them in B&W with no conversion (maybe in an even higher resolution, since they compress to pretty small files anyway). But if you don't have time to rescan it, don't worry! You can upload them to IMSLP, without submitting them, and I'll take a look at the file and see if there's a way to make it smaller without losing quality. If everything else fails, I'll submit it as is; I'm kind of a quality-freak... I'll take a 78MB high quality PDF over a 3MB medium quality PDF any day :) And yes, grayscale usually doesn't convert well to monochrome :/
By the way, it might be a good idea to split the 78MB file into several chunks (pdftk maybe?) before uploading, since this server is really not very stable, and a 78MB upload has a high chance of timing out...

Very nice idea :) And I see you've implemented the category already. I agree with you on the last point... we'll need to be as cautious as we can. I have not yet heard anything from Mr.Aperghis, which is unfortunate :/ I will probably remove the scores soon, as I think I have already given him fair notice, and him not replying I will take to mean that either he doesn't care about whether the score is on IMSLP, or he doesn't want the score to be on IMSLP... and I think it might be safer to assume the latter. Thank you for pointing this out though :)

Hi EmeraldImp, I noticed that you have taken on the task of the Schubert string works that appear in the Dover volume, which is itself a reprint from the Breitkopf & Hartel complete works edition from the late 19th century. Gutenberg has already scanned this volume and has the tiff files (all 79 MB worth) available for download here. It might save you some time in scanning!

Hello Emeraldimp, you may be glad to hear - if you haven't noticed already - that our request for an IMSLP interwiki prefix in Wikipedia has finally been accepted. However, I would suggest that we continue keeping an eye on it. Firstly, it will probably take a few months before it is actually implemented, and there is a small risk that it gets thrown out if it conflicts with something else. Secondly, there is an ongoing discussion (part of it can be found at the end of the interwiki map talk page) about dissociating the link syntax from the nofollow issue. This could mean that a separate "nofollow whitelist" is established, and in that case we should take care that IMSLP is included. (In case you didn't know, in Wikipedia the external links get the rel="nofollow" attribute by default. This means that they are not taken into account by Google for determining the pagerank. Currently, those links that are made with an interwiki prefix don't get the attribute, so they do count for pagerank.) --Leonard Vertighel 04:17, 4 May 2007 (EDT)
scores: now links to IMSLP. I have switched 18 templates to the interwiki syntax (templates are a great invention). Now there should be some 2000 links in 16 languages (about 1/4 of them in English) without rel="nofollow" attribute. I think that an increase in Google ranking is to be expected over the next few weeks.

some pieces are actually known with their original language numbers. like liszt's "douze etude"-series, and his "fünf klavierstücke". numeralization is good to some degree, but not when works get mixed up or when "new works" simply appear.. --Funper talk 14:34, 28 June 2007 (EDT)

I came across the composer Paul de Maleingreau here on IMSLP, and his name is incorrectly spelled on the composer list and his page - misspelled name - should be Maleingreau not Meleingreau.
