Misc. Notes These notes follow those of the first printed edition. In this edition parts for viola are added, that can replace the second violin or the cello part. I tried to create parts that enable viola players to play in baroque trio sonatas. The original composition has a continuo part, but it also sounds complete without it.

Martin Adams ("Henry Purcell: The Origins and Development of His Musical Style"): and it is partly this (discovery of a manuscript - BL Add Ms 30930 - which contains among other things an early version of 8 of the (now called trio) sonatas, all works in the manuscript except one dated 1680 or earlier) which suggests that all twenty-two known sonatas were written across a period not longer than the late 1670s to 1684 or 1685, and could well be much more concentrated in the early 1680s
