First published in vocal score by Chappell & Co., n.d. [1880]. This first edition contained a choral finale of 31 bars in length. Subsequently, following adverse criticism as to the brevity of this section, a second edition was published with an extended choral finale (47 bars in length): a newly-typeset (2003) version of this second edition vocal score is available from the Gilbert and Sullivan Archive - The Martyr of Antioch

A completely new edition of the vocal score was published by Chappell in 1898. This incorporated (as an appendix) a choral finale of 91 bars in length, specially composed for stage presentation of the cantata by the Carl Rosa Opera Company and first performed by them at the Lyceum Theatre, Edinburgh, 15th February 1898.
