A performance of this song (probably not its first from context) is reported in the Musical World of London (in a concert "Saturday last", journal issue dated February 13 1875, page 121.)
Librettist identified here and in other songs only as S.H. Gatty, but seems likely..? to be Gatty's brother Stephen who became chief justice of Gibraltar. See The Gatty Family.
