Extra Information Pepusch composed the Overture (introducing a few of the song tunes), and harmonised/arranged the song tunes, most of which were popular English ballad tunes of the time. The performance of this was forbidden for a while, because of its political commentary. See The Beggar's Opera: Its Predecessors and Successors.
