Theme of the Adagio non troppo is in a sort of "modal minor" (obsessively repeated - rather well...) - that cadences to E♭ major just at the end of the movement.
Chosen from among 64 manuscripts submitted (along with Stanford's 5th symphony, Holst's The Hymn of Jesus and some other works) to be published by the Carnegie Trust in the Carnegie Collection of British Music in 1920. (The New International Year Book, 1920, page 452.)
