Date at end of first violin part reads? 18.1.19 (January 18 1819?) No other Mascia works for comparison but seems early to be receiving the opus number 99 - not sure I'm understanding correctly. (Maybe it's the date a library received the manuscript and means January 18 1919- don't know. There are a couple of other notations.) (Schissel) (... unless it means, copyist finished on January 18, 1919?)
Note: numbers at end seem to be library processing numbers, not dates, judging from other Mascia manuscripts?
Amended thought - the quintets opp.100 on were written during the 1860s, suggesting a similar date here. (Schissel) (further amend - lack of bowing, insufficient phrasing odd though, more typical in its way of the 18th or earlier than of the 19th century - was he really a string instrument player? )
