Extra Information | Possibly String Quartet No.8? (or possibly even later in ordering if quartet op.20 mentioned in one source is by this Praeger/Präger, making opus 34 not quartet no.4, followed by the 3 of op.43 at any rate so that this would be at least quartet no.8 or possibly later.) |
Unusually for the estimated date (ca.1825) the slow movement is in the flat 2nd degree (D♭ major.)
Re date estimation: ca.1825 is given by SBB. His next publication, Op.48, Trois Polonoises pour Violon avec acc. de 2 VI., Viola et Vclle., appears in Staats und gelehrte zeitung des hamburgischen unpartheyischen correspondenten in the July 9 1830 issue (next to Christian Friedrich Nohr's symphony, which one knows from HMB was indeed published that year.) So sometime in the vicinity of 1825–1830 seems a good range, will try to find something more specific for opus 47.
Part of the confusion too is that Stabikat/SBB has this catalogued as "quartet no.6" which seems odd with quartets 1-3, op.13, no. 4 op.34 and nos. 5-7 op.43 preceding.
