Macchi's typeset here credits this work to Biagio Marini, but there is no publication in 1617 by Biagio Marini entitled Il Primo libro di Madrigali a cinque voci. There is one by that title, in that year, by Gioseffo (Giuseppe) Marini. Claudio Macchi's edition of Sylvia gentil exists at ChoralWiki under Gioseffo's name. So far, no library with an edition of this 1617 collection of madrigals has a contents list, so it is not possible to check whether Sylvia gentil is, indeed, in Gioseffo's rather than Biagio's madrigals. One potential problem with an attribution to Gioseffo is that both Grove Music and RISM list him as having been born in 1610, which would make him 7 years old when the collection was published. However, both Grove Music and RISM attribute that collection to Gioseffo. Grove Music has been contacted to see if they can sort out which date is wrong, or whether the attribution itself is wrong.
CPDL's page on Gioseffo Marini mentions an appointment as maestro di cappella in 1618, so it is likely that the 1610 birth date is wrong, and that he was, indeed, older at the time of that appointment, and this publication.
