"H.C. Watson" is usually taken nowadays to mean the botanist "Hewett Cottrell Watson" (1804–81) but the 1877-published score says "Poem by the late H.C. Watson". (Unless this is a case of reports of death being greatly exaggerated- but there does seem to be poetry etc. over much of the 19th century from the 1830s on by H. C. Watson, so unless the botanist was a poet on the side, this would seem to be a different person anyway...)
