Extra Information According to The Book of World-famous Music by James J. Fuld, this song would only have been notated and arranged by T. Cottrau abd some sources credit him with the Italian words and A. Longo with the music. This might refer to the composer Achille Longo (1832–1919), father of better known Alessandro Longo.
  • The 1849 edition has only the Neapolitan lyrics: after translated into Italian this piece was widely much appreciated. Santa Lucia" in the title refers to a borough of Naples, close to the sea side. Its name comes from the parish and basilica of Santa Lucia, near Naples.
