Ernst Schiever (1844-1915): Violin student of Joachim, and founder member of the Joachim Quartet (1869-72, succeeded by Carl Halir). In 1878 he settled in Liverpool as concertmaster of the Richter Orchestra. For three decades he was primarius of the Schiever Quartet (with Alfred Ross, Carl Courvoisier, and Walter Hatton). Carl Fuchs (1865-1951) principal cello of the Halle orchestra of Manchester, was the main cellist of this quartet.
