Segni wrote many ricercars. 13 of them were published in Musica Nova in 1540, and Grove Music lists this set as for "insts". A further ricercar was specifically for keyboard, and there were also 12 for lute, and Grove Music lists these as "(?all arrs.)" It seems many of these were intabulated by others, not Segni himself. According to Grove, "[t]o what extent these intabulations disguised the original polyphony is now difficult to determine, but the high incidence of restatement and the fairly consistent imitative writing indicate that the lost originals probably resembled his pieces in Musica nova."
