Begun in London, first movement completed there, completed in Gandersheim (Brown, p.143.) (Of course here Brown is partially summarizing Spohr's own autobiography, available on Gutenberg (p.103 ("and I there first completed the quintet for pianoforte, flute, clarinet, horn and double-bass which I had begun in London"); p.134 for the second return to Gandersheim, 1821)- not claiming he claims otherwise, see his footnotes. The quintet was performed by October 1820, judging from pp.103-4 of the autobiography.
This is the first version of the Quintet, the second one being the one for piano and strings, transcribed by the author (again while in Gandersheim, soon after the composition and publication of op.52) and published as Op.53.
The metronome marks are given in a somewhat archaic style - the second movement for example has "
= 30"_67.M." (For the third movement the number is not 30 but 24, directly after the "." This may take some interpretation, and even more so the finale's.)
