Navigation etc.

  • The C3 part of the Pavan does not go below violin range and could be done by either violin or viola. The C3 part of the Gagliarda goes to a low F, and cannot be played by a violin.
  • The basso part is the 4th part, so cello alone may be sufficient.
  • Since violin family instruments are not explicitly named, and this is rather early for such combinations, they have not been tagged. Books 2 and 5 name viols in the title, and Farina was court violist.
