  • According to Grove Music, most of the contents of the Harmonice Musices Odhecaton are chansons, and although most of them do not have text (including this one), the text would have either been known to the people of the time, or available elsewhere. There are a few pieces that may have been instrumental in origin. However, Grove Music lists this as a vocal work, as does RISM and RISM also lists it as a vocal work. Accordingly, this has been tagged as a vocal work, and since it seems to be accepted as "Noel", it has been tagged a carol.
