Misc. Notes The move from two soloists to full chorus is an arrangement, but - question: are the instrumental parts based on the originals (available in some libraries) or an attempt to reconstruct them? (Not a problem either way, just curious...) A full score based on those parts (assuming a complete set still exists somewheres...) and the original vocal instrumentation remains an open thing, of course :)

The instrumental parts were arranged in accordance with the organ part. Unfortunately, I didn't have access to the original parts of the orchestra. The orchestral arrangement is also mine. In the collections I have access to, there are no original orchestral parts of Battmann's Masses.

Mass no.2 is in C Op.282 (pub.ca.1884), Mass no.3 (named 3rd mass: Troisième Messe (Es) à 2 Voix égales av. Org. ou Harm.) is in E op.366 (pub.1884). There is also a Petite messe solennelle Op.335 in C (pub.1880), and op.63 Messe d’une très-facile Exécution p. Solos et Choeurs à l’Unisson av. Org. (ou Harmon.) (1871). (However, Opp.335 and 336 are masses in C and in G according to an advertisement in a publication of Dudley Buck's Hymn to Music, even though, yes, 335 and 336 are between 282 and 366. There may be a reason for this, however (they are counted as "easy" masses also.) - Edit 1-18-13)

According to the French National Library (BNF) Op.193 was actually assigned by Battmann to a Galop sicilien (in 1864). This is Op.143. See RISM. The published version is a reduction. (Which makes sense since in BNF other works published around 1884 by Battmann have opus numbers in the 400s, not 193. Assuming this mass was published in order and that something odd is not going on here, it was probably published around the mid 1860s, like other works in the op.140s-190s range.)

According to the ms copy parts (from between 1840 and 1880, probably) at Archivo Histórico de la Parroquia del Sagrario, Tulancingo, Hidalgo, the work was originally Op.143, for 2 tenors, flute, clarinet, trumpet, 2 trombones, 2 violins (parts might be incomplete?), and the published version above is a vocal score.
