History[1][7]

The company was founded as a music shop and piano-selling business by Julius Cohen (1822–1896)[5] in 1847 in Odense, Denmark[2]. He moved to Copenhagen in 1848. Publishing activities began in 1848 (two marches by Carl Christian Møller) and continued until 1873[6]. However, the company continued operating as a piano seller. The company published the sheet music periodicals Nyt musikalsk Museum (9 volumes with 12 issues from 1850–1859) and Journal for Musik for Pianoforte (12 issues from 1859–1861). Purchased by Carl Ferdinand Borchorst and then sold by him to Hansen in the late 1870s (see C.C. Lose for the history.)
