History

In 1823, Heinrich Albert Probst (1791-1846) founded his Leipzig publishing firm. The catalog contained many famous names of the day, such as Reissiger, Czerny, Pixis and Moscheles.

Around 1831, Probst appeared to join forces with Carl Friedrich Kistner (1797-1844), evidenced by publication advertisements in contemporary periodicals under header "H.A. Probst - Fr. Kistner in Leipzig"[1][2]. Also, HMB notices for Probst mostly ceased in Sept 1831, and the first notices for Kistner appeared that same month. It is unclear whether Probst sold the business to Kistner around this time (in 1831) or continued operations for another few years. Previously this page stated that Probst sold the business in 1836. After the sale, and the firm was renamed Kistner.
