George Cooper got two-for-one on this song. He wrote a poem called "There Are Plenty of Fish in the Sea" and sold it to Stephen Foster. Horace Waters published it in 1862. Then he changed the words a little bit and sold it again to Thomas who published it as "Fishes in the Sea" in 1863.
