It is unknown what the original instrumentation of this was, but it was probably for flute and orchestra.
When the first fantasia was advertised in the Musical World April 28 1860, it was at least published for flute and piano, but no parts for flute and orchestra even for rental seem to have been mentioned in the ad. Will see if an ad for the 2nd fantasia can be located. - ES
