Miscellaneous information
- Taught in Burlington in the 1880s (e.g. Burlington Daily Hawk Eye, February 9, 1881); consistent with location of dedicatees of some of Cloy's works, and claims that Cloy was Messe's pseudonym, made in LoC copyright pubilcations.
Additional evidence that F.W. Messe used C.V. Cloy as a pseudonym (even though it doesn't follow that every work by Charles V. Cloy is actually by F.W. Messe) can be found on the second page of his piano piece "Sweetest Delight", published 1885 (with "F.W. Messe (C.V. Cloy)" above the first system. It's not clear, of course, which is the pseudonym...)
Cloy/Clay is known for piano works, while Messe's name can be found more often over liturgical works (hymns, mostly?). Biographical information for either seems to be lacking (?).
