Extra Information The tune takes its name from a ballad about the pirate Captain Kidd. A somewhat related tune called Honor to the Hills was published in The Christian Harmony by Jeremiah Ingalls (p.47) in 1805.
First publication under the name Captain Kid, 1818 in Johnson's Tennessee Harmony; further versions of this appear in 1820 in The Missouri Harmony by Allen D. Carden (p.57), 1825 in Columbian Harmony by William B. Moore (p.73, attributed to Nicholson) and 1835 in The Southern Harmony by William Walker (p.50).
