Van Santvoord was in the 1890s, at least after returning from a trip to Europe if not also before, a flutist of the Beethoven Club, Boston, and performed at a number of concerts in the area (according to a quick Google search.) Sibley Library has a digitized copy of his "Imperial method for the flute." (Cincinnati: Church, 1898).
