See David Braham - The American Offenbach (page 83) for historical background; two of the songs probably written sometime between 1874 and 1876 to accompany a visit to the Harrington troupe for which Braham wrote by John Williams, the Lancashire Lad (the other two written by Williams); the set not published until 1885. (Franceschina quotes a letter from Williams to a friend asking whether Braham had put any music to his song, suggesting that some collaborations were attempted, though even if any were finished these particular songs may not necessarily be those collaborative efforts.)
