Dingelstedt was a poet, dramatist and perhaps met Boise during the latter's European travels, which brought him to Weimar (where Liszt no longer lived- this was 1876- but stopped in more than occasionally) (see e.g. Wikipedia). (Actually, by 1876 Dingelstedt was no longer intendant of the Weimar theater but rather was associated with the Vienna theater. However, if they met in person- Boise may have run across the poem elsewhere, too - it might have been in Vienna also? Hrm.)
