Navigation etc.

  • RISM has 5 entries for this work, none of which are an autograph manuscript. One has 4 solo voices with no chorus, another has 3 solo voices with chorus, two have 4 solo voices with chorus, and one gives no instrumentation. Further, of the four that have a scoring, only one has winds in the orchestra, the others are strings and continuo (see next comment on that). For the moment, this is tagged generically for voices and chorus with strings and continuo, but should be corrected if an autograph manuscript or 1st edition is ever uploaded.
  • The manuscripts of this work in Frankfurt contain versions in E major and G major (reflecting Chorton and Kammerton). Neither full score has a part for oboes, but different manuscript parts exist in each key. This work was originally composed for Eisenach in 1711, and it is likely that the E major version had parts added for performances in Frankfurt in 1718. The G major parts may stem from a later performance. It is valid to perform this work without oboes, or with either of the oboe versions. The choice of version will depend on which pitch is chosen - the E major version may be better at a higher pitch, and the G major version at a lower one.
