The Violin Sonatas are mostly arrangements of other works.
No.1 is the only original composition specifically written for this medium and was published as Op.70.
Sonatas No.2-5 also appear as Piano Sonatas 24-26 & 43 respectively with the violin part omitted.
Sonata No.6 is an arrangement of 3 Mvts. from the Divertimento for 2 Violins, Flute, Oboe, Cello, & Bass, which also exists in another guise as Piano Sonata No.15.
Finally, No.7 & 8 are arrangements of the String Quartets No.1 & 2 of Op.77 without the menuet & trio mvts.
