Extra Information | I wrote this piece in High School after hearing my friend Fred Kardell play his violin. It shows many of my composing preferences that can be found in much of my later music. This is loosely 12-tone, using nearly 12-note rows as melodic content and treating them with Inversion, Retrograde, and Retrograde Inversion. There are numerous canonic passages. Also there are three aleatoric sections: two with free rhythms for the piano; one with free notes and rhythms for the violin. In the 1980s I created a performance in my Ensoniq EPS. I notated the score into Finale as a closing year 2023 project. |
