Extra Information Jora's Violin Sonata comes quite late in his creation - here we witness his very mature style, in a piece where rhythm and harmony reign tallest. The ethos of Romanian folk music stands at the core of the Sonata, along with its very specific lyricism. The modal-chromatic melodic material only reinforces this unique ambience. The musical language of late Jora tends to melt harmonic and contrapuntal devices together; that, along with his very specific melodic lines add up to a piece that breaks through the tonal sphere, but that also doesn't cross into the pure atonal universe. Instead, it creates a unique sonorous ambience, one that is purely Jora's - a real masterpiece of the genre.
