Navigation etc.

Spohr's arrangement of the slow movement as a concert-piece for clarinet was his first clarinet work, written for Johann Simon Hermstedt (1778-1846). See Spohr's solo clarinet works

Also as to instrumentation, note that the SBB catalog describes the work as "Sixi[è]me Concerto pour Violon, Avec Accompagnement de deux Violons, Alt, deux Basses, deux Flûtes, 2 Clarinettes, 2 Hautbois, 2 Bassons, 2 Cors ; Oeuvre 28." - only 2 horns and no trumpets, pace Fleisher. (Work may have been revised after initial publication, of course.)
