Navigation etc.

A Dramatic Essay is full of big sounds in changing meter. The first movement might be called a dance, but it opens with large chords in every register of the piano and lots of forte resonance. The dancing happens in the middle, but has the character of a folk dance gone out of control. The meter keeps chaning. The middle movement is a pasacaglia written in 7/8 time. It gradually becomes more complex, until it dissolves into a chorale. The final movement is a wild ride in pursuit of something important. Viola and Piano keep exchanging ideas about the way out of whatever predicament they are in. Luckily, everything comes out square in the end.
