BTW, you can correct a page's title by using the "move page" feature. Soler Sonatas

Hello Steve, I think I might be able to locate the deleted files you posted previously, though it will take some time for me to troll through the deletion records. If I manage to do this, can CC replace the files he uploaded with the ones you uploaded previously? If so, we can then more-or-less retain the pages set up by CC so the individual sonatas can be downloaded along with the multi-sonata files you kindly provided today. For now, we can only do the first 5 volumes of the sonatas in the Rubio set. Any sonatas first published in vol. 6 of Rubio will fall under Canada's version of Editio Princeps (see above) and will have to wait until 1/1/2013. Thanks, Carolus 07:10, 22 December 2009 (UTC)

UPDATE: I managed to locate all but 2 of the Marvin numbered Sonatas and restored them. The others in the delete archive appear to be the 10-sonata files you've uploaded again today. Am I missing anything? The Marvin items are to be found on this page. Let me know if these represent the versions you wish to have available here. BTW, Yes you can upload scans of Rubio volumes 2-5 and 1, 2 and 4 of Marvin. Perhaps you can tell me, since I was not able to determine the publication dates yet, when Marvin volumes 5-6 were issued. Thanks for going through the trouble of restoring these items. I think that covers everything I had uploaded previously. By the way, Marvin Volume 3 contains sonatas M.22-M.34 according to the Marvin numbering. Therefore, four of the sonatas on the Other Sonatas page will probably need to be removed for copyright reasons as they are unique to Marvin and do not appear in Rubio. M.36 and M.38 are both in Volume 4, and are ok to keep. Sonata M.44 is in volume 5 of the Marvin edition, and I'm not sure when this volume was originally published either (I worked from a scan of this volume, but the page with the publication and copyright info is missing from my scan) Marvin Volume 6 was published in 1982, obviously off-limits for scanning...SteveBNA 12:56, 22 December 2009 (UTC)

Thanks for the info about the contents of Marvin's volume 3. Obviously, the first four sonatas on the 'others' page will have to go, since they were never issued previously. I'm guessing that volume 5 was issued in the 1970s and is most likely off limits also so M.44 will have to disappear too. Nevertheless, we've now got a a fine sampling of Soler's work. Graupner - Monatliche Klavierfrüchte

I didn't know how to contact you, so I try this way. When downloading Graupners Manatliche Klavierfrüchte I found out that Maius (number 5) only contains the 9th page. The former 8 pages are not in the manuscript. Maybe you can complete it. Your list of uploaded scores is impressive, I played a lot of this mostly unknown music. Organist by profession, I obtained a harpsichord three years ago and I love it. Unfortunatedly it's hard to get modern (playable) harpsichord music. I composed a harpsichord piece myself. When I get your E-mail adress I can send it to you as a 'thank you' for your efforts on IMSLP.

Jan - Thank you for letting me know about this. I apparently uploaded the wrong file by mistake. I am replacing Maius with the full 9-page score right now, so it should be available as soon as the Copyright Reviewers unblock it. Since you provided your Email address, I will also be Emailing you the file directly.

I am actively typesetting the remaining suites in Monatliche Klavierfrüchte, and within the next couple weeks, the collection should be complete. If you enjoy the music of Graupner, I also have Fuzeau's facsimile of the 17 suites in the Darmstadt manuscript, which I will be typesetting next, after I finish the Monatliche Klavierfrüchte

Thanks again for your interest in my scores! Your complaint about modern editions of harpsichord music being readily available is the main reason I have spent so much time doing my own typesets!

Mistakes in Soler Sonatas

From Madrid (Spain) - March.18.2010 Hello, SteveBNA: I don't know what is your relation with Steve Wiberg, but I've been trying to find the Due West Editions web page, and it was impossible, and that's why I'm writting to you, because your name appears at the side of Wiberg. I join here the text I wrote for him, and for everybody who wants to know that the edition of Sonatas by Antonio Soler is full of mistakes: "Looking for new editions of the Sonatas of Antonio Soler, I have seen in IMSLP the 10-volume edition by Steve Wiberg in Due West Editions. As an expert in Soler's sonatas (it is my doctoral thesis), I have to say to all the people who uses this edition thay it is full of mistakes, the same mistakes of the extant edition by Samuel Rubio (which is from 1957-72), which he seemed have copied literally. Everybody can see the mistakes very easily: just compare Sonata no. 41 with Sonata no. 96 (II mov.), or Sonata no. 42 with Sonata no. 96 (IV mov.), or the Sonata no. 45 with the Sonata no. 94 (IV mov.), or the Sonata no. 54 with the Sonata no. 92 (I mov.), for example. They are the same!!! The author seems not to have read the Catalogue of works by Soler published by Samuel Rubio in 1980 (the official expert in Soler until his death) , in which Rubio brings up to date the numbering of Sonatas. The current Sonatas no. 41, 42 and 54 are now three Sonatas from the Madrid Conservatory Manuscript, and Sonata no. 45 is the "Sonata por la princesa de Asturias". What happended is that Rubio did not issue a new edition of Vol. 3 with the new numbered sonatas, and the mistake goes on for years. The first three may be found in the Ife & Truby edition of Sonatas in Oxford: IFE, Barry & TRUBY, Roy (ed.). Antonio Soler. Twelve Sonatas (The Madrid Conservatory Manuscript) Oxford University Press, Oxford, 1989) and the Sonata no. 45 may be found in the following edition: BACIERO, A. Cuadernos para el piano. Vol. I “Sonata por la princesa de Asturias de A. Soler” Real Musical, Madrid, 1979 Both these editions are under copyright, so what should do Steve Wiberg is to get a facsimile copy of Madrid Conservatory Manuscript (just asking to the Library of this place, where I work, if it helps), and a copy of the manuscript of the Sonata no. 45, and then to copy them in Finale to provide with the present Sonatas no. 41, 42, 45 and 54. Thank you so much for taking the time to write. I am indeed Steve Wiberg, the typesetter/editor of works appearing under the "Due West Editions" name. You, as an expert in the sonatas of Soler, have confirmed many things which I had long suspected, namely that there are numerous errors in the Rubio edition of the sonatas. You are also correct, that my edition is essentially a re-typeset of the Rubio edition, mistakes intact. I am not a musicologist and do not have access to the resources necessary to produce a "scholarly" edition of the Sonatas of Soler. I would love to have a copy of the manuscript for sonatas 41, 42, 45, and 54, but do not know where to obtain this. Dear ACC,

Thank you for your remarks on my Guilmant recordings. I did indeed play them by myself. The instrument is a digital organ powered by Hauptwerk software ([[1]]), using a sample set of the Cavaille-Coll/Mutin organ at L'eglise de Notre Dame de Metz in France (Sampled by Milan Digital Audio, [[2]]). I think it's amazing how far this technology has come, as the results are very realistic. I hope to be able to contribute more recordings here as time permits.

About a Russian site

Hi from Paris Steve.. I'm a great fan of your work. I've seen last sunday that a big part of your scores were catched on a russian site, sometimes splited into parts, whith no references and that hurts and it bothers me. So I've refered an administrator P.davydov. I don't know If you're informed, so I give you in copy our discussion about that. But this is already sure that a great part (may be all) of Steve Wiberg (SteveBNA for us)edition is on both site (Boismortier, Balbastre, Chambonnieres, Dandrieu, ....). If any scores contributed to IMSLP under the CC licence have been copied by that site, then they would be guilty of copyright infringement, which is what Squin seems to be suggeesting (although we need some specific examples first) — P.davydov 14:40, 18 July 2010 (UTC)

I confess I'm not entirely surprised by a Russian site violating copyright. However, the issue is that IMSLP does not actually own the copyright to the CC-licensed works, and thus it may be better for the copyright owners to notify the site themselves. Of course, IMSLP will give the contributor/copyright owner its full support. Sometime in the future IMSLP may even have a boilerplate letter available for such purposes that contributors can use. --Feldmahler 14:59, 20 July 2010 (UTC)

P.S. One exception: if the site infringes the copyright of several contributors and all of them authorize and want IMSLP to send a letter to the site, I would be fine with doing that. --Feldmahler 22:22, 20 July 2010 (UTC)

Louis Couperin Pieces de Clavecin

Thanks for your editions, Steve! I've been trying to download the Louis Couperin Pièces de Clavecin -- but it appears the PDF is damaged. (Acrobat and Preview both tell me it is un-readable.) Hope this is easily fixable. Thanks again. - Jeff

Jeff - I just checked both files and I'm able to download them with no problems, so the PDF files on here appear to be ok. I would assume that something may have gone awry with the downloading on your end that caused the PDF files to become damaged. I can only suggest to try again. Alternatively, I would be happy to Email the files directly to you if you are willing to provide an Email address to me.

Hello Steve, I have doubt in the first three notes of "Tombeau de Mr Blancrocher". Of course, I have not seen an original facsimile, but I thought that here is correctly "mi fa so" when listening to the recording of some performances. I believe you are correct, and I'm certain that the error was caused when I transcribed the original part in the Soprano clef (C clef on the bottom line of the staff) in the manuscript to the modern Treble Clef, and ended up off by one line. I don't have my facsimile with me at the moment but will verify this tonight, and upload a corrected version at that time. Thank you so much for bringing this to my attention. In spite of my best efforts to proofread my work, minor errors such as this occasionally escape my attention, and I'm always thankful to those people who find the errors I miss. Hi - I realize you're only the messenger here...Unfortunately, I do not currently have time to thoroughly re-proofread this score (again..I originally typeset it in 2007, and revised it thoroughly in 2009...), but in the absence of specific details, I must stand by the score in its current form. I know your message is about 2 1/2 months in the past now (which shows how often I've been checking my talk page lately...), but if you still remember who told you this, please feel free to steer them in my direction so that they can provide me with specific examples of errors in ornamentation. I'm happy to make any corrections, so long as I am provided with something specific to work with!

d'Agincourt

Thank you for your excellent edition of d'Agincourt! You finished the whole edition in the same time in which I just reached the second ordre. I hoped to be able to return something to the community for all the fine scores I have been downloading and using - but no offence, I am very happy with all your work!

I have another suggestion for the introduction of "Le colin Maillard" (which, by the way, is a game): "this piece must be played with the right hand on the upper keyboard, having muted the 4'-stop on the lower keyboard." user:Jeroen.donkers Email me 18 September 2011.

Thanks for the kind words. I had actually been working on the d'Agincour volume since April, and noticed that you were also beginning to upload your own typesets of this work recently. I hope you don't feel that I was stepping on your toes here -- Your typesets are great, and I hope you will continue working on the remainder of the d'Agincour pieces as well - the community can only benefit from having multiple editions available!
