Mahler Symphony No. 1

Feldmahler, thank you very much for the scan of Mahler #1! Wannes 17:11, 2 June 2007 (EDT)

I didn't scan it, but on the behalf of the scanner, your welcome :) --Feldmahler 17:17, 2 June 2007 (EDT)

Moszkowski Op.55: consolidate pages

Hi Feldmahler, would you please take a look at Op.55. In the composer's category there are already workpages of single movements of Op.55, but actually it's a set of 4 pieces. I've uploaded the score of the complete set under the correct title now. The single movements from Sheetmusicfox seem to be from the same Peters edition and could be moved to the new workpage, what do you think? Hobbypianist 15:46, 2 June 2007 (EDT)

I think that is a very good idea :) You can go ahead and move it (just copy and paste the file entry, and adjust description where necessary). --Feldmahler 16:48, 2 June 2007 (EDT)

Makecategorysortkey doesn't work

Template:Symphonic Poems (Liszt, Franz), the Makecategorysortkey doesn't work. --Funper 18:28, 4 June 2007 (EDT)

I've removed support for it because it is no longer needed in the file template (which it was originally designed for). If you need it, use [[Category:Something{{MakeCategorySortkey}}]] instead :) --Feldmahler 18:55, 4 June 2007 (EDT)

Justifying text in the Main Page

Heya there :P

I started translating the Greek page again (since I have finished school :D ), this time taking more care of the translation than last time. I even translated the Featured Scores and the News pages (and I will watch them so I can update the Greek ones as soon as they change).

However, as I was fixing stuff on the Greek Main Page ( ), I noticed that it would look so much better if the text was justified, and not aligned to the left. All I did was add a div tag, with align="justify" before each text, and a closing tag when the text is finished (I also "justified" the News one so it would look homogenous with the rest of the page). Take a look at the Greek page to see if you like it (well, I do), and if you do, you could do it in the English page too (and I could do it on the other pages). If you don't like it, then tell me so I can remove the justification of the text from the Greek page too.

Take care! :) ~ jujimufu 11:01, 6 June 2007 (EDT)

P.S. Also, I noticed some kind of bug in the main page. I clicked on all languages to see the pages, and I saw that for all the languages, the language menu removes the current language and shows the other languages. However, in the case of Netherlands, it removes English and it highlights (with bold) the "Netherlands" option.

I was also thinking about which one's better: leaving all languages in the list, and highlighting the selected one, or removing the selected and showing the rest. I think that leaving even the current language in (but without being a link), and highlighted (with bold) would be better, because it would give the list of all the languages irrespectively from the language shown.

MakeCategorySortkey

Don't know what exactly this is, but it appears to break the broken redirects. --Leonard Vertighel 11:28, 6 June 2007 (EDT)

Who in the world thought it'd be a good idea to use a template string for replacing text during the parsing process (*kicks himself*) ;) I'll fix it now; though it will require replacing all the {{MakeCategorySortkey}} entries with the new function. Better than not I suppose (and we can also just do the stopgap measure of actually creating a MakeCategorySortkey template)... --Feldmahler 16:51, 6 June 2007 (EDT)
I have an idle bot if that's of any help... --Leonard Vertighel 17:10, 6 June 2007 (EDT)
Hehehe... it's fine :) I think we can just create a template for it, and use the real function in the template. --Feldmahler 17:15, 6 June 2007 (EDT)

Heller scores

Hi Feldmahler, I checked the works of which the files have been replaced yesterday. Could you have a look at Fantaisie Op.37, Caprice brillant Op.70, Rondeau and Romance Op.75 and Traumbilder Book I Op.79? There are links to the pdfs (in blue) but if you try to download them you get nothing. Another problem is with Valse Op.59. I always get a corrupted file of exact 3.686.400 Bytes, first I thought it were a problem on my side, but I tried it several times (I use Mozilla Firefox) and the file list gives the correct size of 4.323.430. Hmm, maybe the system needs more than 24h for update? If the uploads were incomplete I'll do it again, just tell me. Hobbypianist 07:42, 7 June 2007 (EDT)

Number of works

Just a small observation: The number of works advertised on the Main Page is increasingly off, as more and more non-work pages are added in the main namespace (composition lists, publication info, etc.). The number of pages in the Scores category would probably be a more accurate figure. Would it be difficult to add a counter for that? (Certainly not a high priority issue.)

While it is certainly possible, this will have to be quite low priority not only because I have several other things to do at the moment, but also because there may be performance issues... I'm not sure at the moment though :) Maybe it is fine if caching is done (like it already is for the number of scores). --Feldmahler 16:16, 7 June 2007 (EDT)
We could obviously also consider moving all non-work pages out of mainspace... we could discuss it with the community in the forum, if you don't disagree entirely. --Leonard Vertighel 16:39, 7 June 2007 (EDT)
Nope, I don't disagree, though there would be a certain amount of work involved :) The upside is that may be we can use this opportunity to group the different types of pages (Copyright, Publication Info, etc) into different namespaces?
By the way, I'm not too sure about this, but is creating new namespaces fine, or should people stick to the existing namespaces (in the MW code) for a certain reason that I don't know about? (you can answer this on the forums so that you don't have to edit this page again :)) --Feldmahler 16:55, 7 June 2007 (EDT)

By the way, is there a particular reason why those OtherLangs: things are not in the Template: namespace? --Leonard Vertighel 15:47, 7 June 2007 (EDT)

Well, no real reason, except that if it is in the Template: namespace, then there'd be multiple namespaces (to distinguish the "OtherLangs" language link template from the normal ones)... as it is there is already double namespaces ("Otherlangs:IMSLP:")... I just removed the "Template:" namespace so that we don't have triple namespaces. :) Of course, if you have a better way of accomplishing the same thing, I'd be willing to change. --Feldmahler 16:16, 7 June 2007 (EDT)
What's wrong with having multiple namespaces, apart from it not looking very pretty? The inclusion stays the same, you just drop the leading colon. By the way, it's also not very clear to me why some pages have the other languages in the sidebar and others at the top of the page content. Should they always be in the sidebar? --Leonard Vertighel 16:39, 7 June 2007 (EDT)
Hmm... I guess nothing is wrong with the multiple namespaces apart from them being rather long... but since it is already this way, maybe we can just keep it this way? Or is there a benefit for listing the pages under the Template namespace (besides the no-colon inclusion)?
About the sidebar vs top of the page: the sidebar should always be the one used (and not the top of the page); the top of the page thing is basically a leftover from before the sidebar, and which I haven't changed yet. :) --Feldmahler 16:55, 7 June 2007 (EDT)

Cleanup on Alkan (Merge Pages)

Feldmahler, could you please do a little merging on Alkan's work page? http://imslp.org/wiki/Concerto_from_Minor_Etudes_Op.39_%28Alkan%2C_Charles-Valentin%29 and http://imslp.org/wiki/Symphony_from_Etudes_Op.39_%28Alkan%2C_Charles-Valentin%29 and http://imslp.org/wiki/Le_Festin_d%27%C3%89sope_from_Etudes_Op.39_%28Alkan%2C_Charles-Valentin%29 need to be inside the main Etudes page from which they are taken (http://imslp.org/wiki/12_Etudes_in_all_the_Minor_Keys%2C_Op.39_%28Alkan%2C_Charles-Valentin%29) thanks! Daphnis 23:44, 7 June 2007 (EDT)

Done :) --Feldmahler 09:55, 8 June 2007 (EDT)

Cassado

Are Cassado compositions/arrangements public Domain in any country in the world?

If the composition or arrangement was first published before 1923, then it is public domain in the US, and may be submitted to IMSLP's US server. Otherwise no unfortunately, because he died less than 50 years ago. --Feldmahler 09:39, 8 June 2007 (EDT)

Changes in "File Formats"

File Formats - diff - Yes? =P ~ jujimufu 11:11, 8 June 2007 (EDT)

Yes... and we should also mention that the only allowed formats inside a ZIP file are PDF, DJVU, MUS and SIB. :)

Also, I've had several questions about translating IMSLP into Greek. For example, should I translate templates such as Template:WorkNonPD-EU? And if I do translate it, how would it be possible that it appears in the Greek page?

You can use the IFLANG construct :) --Feldmahler 13:09, 8 June 2007 (EDT)

Correction of composer names

Hi, Feldmahler, would you please correct the names of A.Jensen. Adolph is an old spelling, its actually written with f. The second one is A.Gruenfeldt, the correct name is Grünfeld. Thanks :) Hobbypianist 14:50, 9 June 2007 (EDT)

Well... even me moving it right now would be basically creating a new composer page and manually moving the pages to the new composer category by changing the composer name in the title (stuff that basically anyone can do). If it is possible, I'd like to wait for the category mover special page (which I'm going to write) before moving the composer pages... :) --Feldmahler 15:16, 9 June 2007 (EDT)
ok, I thought it were possible to move them without creating any new pages. Then I will wait for the new category mover, its not urgent at all ;)Hobbypianist 15:33, 9 June 2007 (EDT)

Relocation of works transcribed

As per a recent thread regarding this matter of where to put arranged works, I would respectfully request that in this instance these two pages be relocated to the composer and not the arranger (Saint-Saens in this case): http://imslp.org/wiki/La_mort_de_Tha%C3%AFs_%28Concert_paraphrase%29_%28Saint-Sa%C3%ABns%2C_Camille%29 --> Massenet http://imslp.org/wiki/3_Transcriptions_from_Beethoven%27s_String_Quartets_%28Saint-Sa%C3%ABns%2C_Camille%29 --> Beethoven Whether they should be moved entirely or simply linked I suppose is up to the admins. I'm fine with it either way so long as these pages appear in some fashion on the COMPOSER pages. Thanks. Daphnis 20:07, 9 June 2007 (EDT)

I'd agree with linking in this case. You can simply copy the file entry to a work page under the original composer's category :) I generally prefer linking, because moving would involve unnecessary extra actions; it is conceivable that people may want to find the piece under the arranger's category, and since it is already submitted there, why bother removing it :)
I've also clarified this issue in the score submission guide. --Feldmahler 23:33, 9 June 2007 (EDT)
Is copying the file entry to another work page something I can do? If so I'm not sure how to do it myself. I can fumble around and figure it out I guess...Daphnis 23:46, 9 June 2007 (EDT)
Yep... you can simply copy file entry from the source page to the target page (using "edit") and your done :) --Feldmahler 23:51, 9 June 2007 (EDT)

Merging "Help:Editing" with "Help:Tutorial/Page editing"?

Hey there!

I was thinking that maybe we should merge the Help:Editing page with the Help:Tutorial/Page editing page, mainly because Help:Editing contains pretty much the same information as the Help:Tutorial/Page editing page, but in much more detail, so it would be wise not to have two pages, and have the Help:Editing page redirect to the Help:Tutorial page instead.

What's more, I was thinking that maybe we should link from Help:Contents to Help:Tutorial some how, because they are both help files and are not linked in any way. Perhaps we should add Help:Contents in the navigation menu of Help:Tutorial so that all help files can be navigated through one menu (that of Help:Tutorial). Or we could move Help:Contents to Help:Tutorial/Contents, and have Help:Contents redirect there.

Tell me what's it going to be, so I can make the appropriate changes in the Greek pages as well. ~ jujimufu 07:11, 10 June 2007 (EDT)

Oppose - the Tutorial is meant to be a concise guide for new users. Help:Editing on the other hand should be an extensive reference manual. The latter certainly needs some reworking, and the Tutorial should be linked from there. But the extensive manual should not be part of the Tutorial. The Tutorial should only contain an overview of the most essential features and functions of the site, so that new users can get "up to speed" within a few minutes. They can then look up the details they need in the extensive manual. --Leonard Vertighel 07:24, 10 June 2007 (EDT)
Ok. But at least there should be some kind of linking between the two.
I think we all agree on linking. :) --Feldmahler 13:57, 10 June 2007 (EDT)

Also (to Feldmahler), concerning the translation of the site, I've been wondering if I can help translate the general Greek version of the wiki, because some terms have not been translated (such as "browse scores" on the left navigation menu) and I have created pages for the Help and Sitemap pages, as well as Site Support and others (and translate the headings of the submenus in the left navigation menu). Tell me if I can edit the Greek version of the wiki (either through you or alone) so I can start working on a completely Greek version of the site. I'll be finishing with the translation of all the pages in a couple of days, so that should make it for the first completely translated version of IMSLP. Thanks again, take care! ~ jujimufu 10:42, 10 June 2007 (EDT)

Well, you can simply put the translation of the untranslated bits of the sidebar on some blank page, and I'll add them to the wiki :) --Feldmahler 13:57, 10 June 2007 (EDT)

 :D

IMSLP:News: "Please report any downloading problems to the forums." - "The forums are down for maintenance" - Sorry but this just made me laugh... you might wish to change the former. (By the way, I didn't write "2 entries" but "2 milestones", and moreover it's just a suggestion.) --Leonard Vertighel 05:45, 12 June 2007 (EDT)

Hahaha... good observation :) Wonder why I didn't see it... --06:01, 12 June 2007 (EDT)
