Unused files

There seems to be something wrong with Special:Unusedimages. For example, Image:Beethoven, L.v. - Piano Sonata 04.pdf is shown as unused (also on the image page), but in fact it appears to be linked from Piano Sonata No.4 (Beethoven, Ludwig van) (first entry). U.S. Server Upload

Hey Feldmahler, I was wondering if the U.S. server upload is working correctly. I went to upload the file of the Dohnanyi Violin concerto, but it does not seem to work. After I hit upload, it acts as if its uploading the file but when it finishes and the screen refreshes the new file does not show up in the directory. I've never seen this happen before, so I don't know what the deal is or if I'm doing something wrong. Anyway, I tried uploading it 3 or 4 times and it did the same thing every time so I'd appreciate it if you could take a look at it. Thanks.Mcroskell 23:25, 11 August 2007 (EDT)

I've just moved the forums (i.e. U.S. server) to another server (hence the downtime), and I think this is happening due to a misconfiguration somewhere. I've pretty much pinpointed the point of failure, but since it is already quite late today I'll fix it tomorrow :) I'll leave a note on your user talk page once this is fixed. Cherubini

Hi boss, I´ve been trying to create a page to upload the famous Counterpoint & Fugue by him but something went wrong and I don´t quiet sure what is. Could you please delete the page I´ve created so I can creat it again. Also, it´s ok to upload books written by the composers? Let´s says, Schumann's collection of music writtings, Liszt's ¨life of chopin¨, and the Berlioz ¨Treatise on Instrumentation¨that I have already uploaded? let me know.. cheers nachoBA

Sibelius Copyright

Hey Feldmahler, since Sibelius died in 1957, shouldn't all of his pieces that are up on the site be stored on the US server since they will be copyrighted in Canada until next year? I ask because tonight I was checking to see if a file for the MIT project was already up and noticed that quite a few of his works are downloadable from the Canadian server.Mcroskell 00:53, 15 August 2007 (EDT)

"Recording" field in files

Heya Feldhamler! I am writing this note to remind you of the "Recording" field which we said we should add to the File template. The administrator of pianosociety.com contacted me a few days ago and told me that he finished linking the recordings of his site to the respective music scores on IMSLP, and he is now waiting for the "recording" field to be put up.

I think we should implement this as soon as possible, to show our gratitude for the amount of work that he did in order to link all the recordings to IMSLP.

Pianosociety.com is a great opportunity to make IMSLP more widely known, as it has more than 500,000 downloads per month, and last June it had 150,000 downloaded sheets (which now means, 150,000 links to IMSLP), and this is why we should maintain the best of relations with the site :) It is going to benefit both sites greatly :D Take care!

Idea about Publisher Pages

I had an insight on publisher pages and the pieces that have been published by that company and exist in IMSLP.

Instead of writing out the link to the article of the publisher in the "Publisher" field of the "Add File" form, we could create categories for each publisher that has a page here on IMSLP, and then make a template which will add the work page on the category, as well as create the link (before the rest of the information, such as dates, plate nos etc) to the publisher page.

For example, we might create a template called {{Ditson}}, which would add a link to the Ditson page in the "Publisher" field, but it would also add the piece in the category Category:Ditson.

(the code should look like this, I guess:)

[[Category:Ditson]]

I am not saying we shouldn't write out manually the plate numbers, dates and other info individually on each publisher page, but by using the template it would be much easier and faster to find all the IMSLP scores that belong to each publisher, and keep track of them (i.e. add any pieces in the "Plate Numbers" list that haven't been added etc).

You know, this is a great idea. It may well make manually editing publisher pages obsolete in the future, when the template is advanced enough (it could record all the plate numbers, etc, and spit them out on a special page, though that would take a bit of coding). It may be a good idea to start a thread in the feature request section of the forums, so that I don't somehow forget this :)

Also, I think a basic template (with wiki-code only) can be made right now. I would suggest not making a template for every publisher, but a master template, which takes the publisher name as an argument, with the plate number, date, and etc also as arguments. This way it should be rather easy to implement the automatic publication listing page.

Leo Ornstein

Hi Feldmahler,

I've got some happy news. Severo Ornstein, the composer's son and copyright owner, has granted permission for all of his father's scores to be available for download at IMSLP. Here's a quote from his e-mail to me in response to my permission request - which was in turn inspired by our wild new poster who has no concept of copyright whatever!

Thanks for your message. I inherited all rights to my fathers music, but I have chosen to give it away. I'm far more interested in having the music played and heard than in trying to make money from it, so I'm taking the "Steal This Book" approach. If you look at http://LeoOrnstein.net you will see what I myself have spent some years doing. I am more than happy to have the music made available anywhere, including of course your site.

Unfortunately, undeleting files is generally not possible :/ However, I assume that you are talking about Ornstein's piece, and thus can be reuploaded?

Gershwin files - floating around somewhere

Hi again,

You probably have way too much to do as it is, but...I thought I'd mention that our recent wild poster uploaded some files to Porgy and Bess (not PD unless it's a musical excerpt only - no words) which don't seem to be on the main server. They aren't in evidence at the list on the US server either, even though that doesn't mean they're not there. P & B is most absolutely not free in the US, as you know. Hi, I managed to find them - they magically appeared after the upgrade. They've been sent into the witness protection program. BTW, the two little pieces by Boris Pasternak were published only in 1975 by Sovietski Kompozitor and are thus under copyright. Problems moving some Gigout's works

Hi boss I´m trying to move some pieces composed by Gigout. Especifically I´m trying to move:

• Cantilène (des 12 Pièces) (Gigout, Eugène)
• Scherzo (Gigout, Eugène)
• Communion (Gigout, Eugène)

To:

• Douze Pièces pour Orgue (Gigout, Eugène)

As these pieces are part of this collection and I guess they should be all grouped togheter. Unfortunately I wasn´t able to do it using the MOVE function. I don´t know what I´m doing wrong. Thanks in advance nachoBA

The "move" function should probably be better called "rename"; it cannot combine pages or do any other complex operations (it merely changes the page title). To combine the three pages you can simply copy the file entries from the three pages to the one target page, and add a {{Delete}} template to the top of the three pages that needs to be deleted. :) --Feldmahler 15:42, 29 August 2007 (EDT)

Done! There are four pages that should have to be deleted as they were arranged in other pages. I´ve already added the {{Delete}} template. One question, I know it´s interesting to have similar editions of a given work, but if you check the duplications in this case, it´s the same file, the same edition (except for one of the additional versions of the Toccata).

Creating/transplanting one composer's work title/page to another

Feldmahler, how would I go about putting a link to Satie's Gymnopedies on Debussy's works page? Since Debussy orchestrated 2 of these Gymnopedies I'd like to link to that Satie work page and if possible skip right to the orchestration. Can you advise? Daphnis 21:29, 28 August 2007 (EDT)

Hmm... apparently it is impossible to redirect to a page section :/ So there are two choices: either redirect to the page, or simply copy the file entry to the Debussy page (i.e. resubmit the file). Many thanks! Two tiny other things: can you make the work page under Debussy reflect the same as it does in Satie, for example: 3 Gymnopédies (Satie, Erik Alfred Leslie), or at least accent over the 'e' and indicate they're Satie's works :)

This one is easy :) You can just move the page using the "Move" tab. However, you will have to leave Debussy in the parenthesis, because the category it is under depends on this. LoC Music collections call numbers (cont.)

Ok good news finally. I got my hands on the newest edition of the Classification index (1998). The section of interest to us is the M (just music), but over half of those entries are taken up by vocal music, so I ask you--what would you prefer to have?
